Looper that allows the loop to decay as you overdub?

I have two old DigiTech sampler/delay pedals that I love - the PDS 8000 Echo+Plus and the PDS 2000 Sampler. Both of them do sampling/looping (8 secs and 2 secs respectively) but the really cool thing about these pedals is that you can set it so the original sample slowly decays as you play over it, with the new phrase replacing the old one gradually.

Is there anything on the market now that does such a thing? All the newer loopers I have tried all allow for tons of overdubs, but the only one I am aware of that does something similar is the TC Electronic Ditto X4 Looper. Are there any others that allow for that decay/fade effect - any thoughts?

Not a looper, but the Strymon El Capistan sound on sound setting does this well. It's spendy though. I've been able to get my Catalinbread Echorec to do that too, but it's a little trickier to set up.

Yeah, the El Capistan does that really well. And I like the tape age with wow and flutter too. I wish the El Cap could 'lock in' the loop for infinite repeats then let you 'open it up' so that you could overdub and let the original decay with each pass. I think the one I want to sit down with is the Ditto x4...

I don't really like ehx since I've owned 6 different pedals and 5 of them crapped out on me in some way...

but one of the loopers with sliders would do it
you just have to overdub, then turn down a previous loop on another slider.

I guess you can do the same with the Boss RC300 too.

The jamman stereo looper has a "fade" function.
I have never use it myself but could be what you are looking for.

Ah cool, thx for the tips. I'll check out the some of those suggestions... I skimmed the PDF manuals for both the JamMan Stereo looper and the EHX Memory Man Hazari and it appears the Memory Man Hazari might be the way to go. Of course, best way is to just try the pedals and see what they do...

The Jamman Fade just fades the volume out on a loop when you hit stop rather than immediately cutting out; it won't fade old loops under new ones. I really like it as a playback and loop machine, but it doesn't do that kind of 'organic' sound.

The AKAI E2 will fade an original loop out after you put on enough overdubs, but it might not be quick enough for you.

The Line6 green box does the decaying loopage thing quite nicely. Eventually, the switches will go wonky, though.

I used to have a DL4 but I don't recall if it did quite the same thing or not. Sold it to a bandmate so I might try it again someday
