my reasoning for using hookside on the pedal is because I use fabric on my boards which are homemade(one is 4'x2'). I went to the fabric store with a piece of velcro in my hand and tested nearly every piece of material they had. Turns out headliner material(for cars) is actually more velcro-y than loop side velcro.

I've always bolted my pedals down. I use bicycle chain now, but before that I either used plumber's tape or used longer screws into the base plate holes.

Yeh, this has happened to me. A mate of mine has some of his pedals with hook on bottom and some with loop... He definitely has issues

Off the top of my head, I honestly don't know which is which by name. One side is soft, and one feels like stiff plastic.

For my own boards, I take one of the screws out of the pedal, take it to my local hardware store, get the same threaded screw 3/4" longer, then attach them directly to the pedalboard. It's a pain, but no one will ever be able to steal my pedals!! Haha.
