As someone who isn't particularly snobby about delays, I love the Memory Man with Hazarai. Not analogue, but analogue enough sounding for me. Does the delay sounds I want it to, then does all sorts of fun stuff too.

Not going to lie... I actually prefer the vtm to the DMM. It has a nice dark tone I love. The only reason mine isn't on my board is its size. It's just too big.
I also dig the demos I've seen for the echoshifter.

Sadly the VTM is already gone. If it ever pops up again in my area I've to be quicker! But good news: a Boss RE20 is on it's way to me - got it for 92€ So basically half of the usual price! Let's see if it it's worth it's name and can compete with a (my) real Roland 201 Space Echo!

The Ibanez Echoshifter always looked (aesthetically) and sounded great to me (in demos) but I never tried it in person!

The exho shifter had a lot of reviews where people were complaining about the bypass being really poor. It scared me off of buying it.

so years later, im still using my VTM. i cut down my pedalboard to fit in a sports bag. i tried not using the VTM and realised that there was a massive hole in the sound. so im still going to say the VTM.

Sadly I got tricked with the Space Echo deal (92€ almost seemed to good to be true) never sent it my way...

But as my bandmate has received one for christmas from his gf this sad circumstance also opens up a new chance for better sound diversity!

So my eyes are now on a Ibanez Echo Shifter (used for 90,- / new for 127,-)

Or a Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport (the medium sized with two footswitches, the second being for modulation I think, used for 149,- so still fits this thread)

Still interested in the VTM. But there is none at the Austrian's used market right now... last I've seen was for 49,- which would have been hell of a deal!

Any more advices/experiences good or bad with one of those three?

I heard that some Echo Shifters fail to function after some time for no reason (so better buy the new one and have a warranty?)

I ended up with the Disaster Transport Jr. a couple years ago as I didn't like the sound of modulated delays. I've since come to love the EQD Space Spiral (grandchild of the D.T. series), but the modulation is way more musical. I picked up a D.T. Sr. for my bass rig and am not sure if I'll keep it. The delays and reverb sound great, but the modulation is almost unusable (gets too crazy and pitch-bendy after about 9:00 on either modulation knob). Disaster Transports are a GREAT sounding delay, if you're looking for an analog-voiced delay. I bet you could find a Jr. for under $150 used...

I've really liked the EQD Disaster Transport (the regular sized one). The mod on that sounded really cool and I liked the ability to change the tone from dark to pretty bright (it was a tad noisy at the highest tone knob settings). They were definitely under $150 on Reverb used when I sold mine last year.

I also really like the Hungry Robot Moby Dick (which I found for a little bit under $150 used on Reverb). Sort of tape-y, analog-y voiced repeats, adjustable modulation, 1200 ms delay time, and tap tempo. This is the one I've settled on for now, and the only draw backs seem to be that the taper of the mix knob tends towards more subtle (on my EQD I kept the mix around noon, on the HR I keep it around 3-4 o'clock) and that the box is a little bit tall (a minor complaint, but I had to make a little space between it and the pedal behind it to avoid hitting the knobs when stomping the back pedal).

Saw one on my local used market site (willhaben) for 49€ - was long gone before I even finished my research phase - and a second on reverb.com - also based in the UK - for 36€ + shipping (so again ~ 50€) that was gone within a day - but on Amazon or ebay I can't find one... I'd love to give it a try!

I'd say totally worth it. (They were expensive -- something like $250 or more when the first came out (?) before the recent analog delay boom). Maxon is slightly higher-end Ibanez (or Ibanez is more of a mass market Maxon for some stuff).

I like how the Ibanez delays sit well with the original signal, and can get some of that tape echo blurriness.

I love my vintage ibanez cs9, which is why I went for this. Now I have three pedals! (Third is algal bloom)

I absolutely love the Vox Delaylab. It sounds just amazing and does pretty much everything I'd ever want a delay pedal to do. I think may have been discontinued, but s/h units can be had for $/€100 or so.

Two major downsides, though: It's HUGE (about twice the size of a big bix Strymon) and while it has 30 preset slots (10 banks with 3 slots each), changing between banks is ridiculously complicated, especially considering the pedal has 4 footswitches.

I also have an Ibanez Echo Shifter, EHX Memory Boy and EHX Memory Man w/MN3005, but somehow I just never even consider replacing the Delaylab.

Used Dunlop Echoplex.

Yeah, it's digital. But when I got mine, it killed ALL my tape/analog delay GAS. Really all my delay GAS entirely. And I could probably live without a reverb pedal now too.

If it's the tape echo sound you're after, the Echoplex is the one.

Just tried that Maxon Ad9 pro and holy crap. I've been missing out. I'd say it works well as a reverb on my non reverb amp, it gets into tape sounds way better than I would've guessed, and it sounds so amazing on adding depth as a slapback/bathtub or double sound. It makes me love my silvertone 1482 so much more than I did. It would stand up to my Princeton reverb for home use if it was quiet and the pots weren't scratchy. Didn't think I even needed a delay pedal, but it's changed how I look at my setup and it's inspiring to hear it, even with just guitar. I haven't tried other delays, so this isn't worth anything, but damn this gave me my $115's worth

^ Maxons can be found for great deals. Sadly no one gives them the time of day. But they're really dialed-in delays. Very high build quality too. My AD900 is a take it to the grave pedal. I'm sure the AD-9pro is up there with it.
