Maybe an Aqua Puss or Echo Puss by way huge? The Echo Puss only has 600ms but has modulation, a blend and a tone control. I've not played it, but I have played a Supa Puss that I thought was awesome.

I have tried a few, and the MXR Carbon Copy is still my favorite for a good sounding - not expansive - easy to use analog delay. If you find the modulation to low, there are two internal pots that can augment the modulation level and sound.

The bright version is great in band situation when you dont want to get buried in the mix. The modulation on it stand out more. At end, because it sound so good with my fuzz, I decided to keep the original one.

I just ordered an Ibanez ES2 echo shifter! Will post thoughts when it arrives but it seems to be a great delay for the money from the demos I've heard.

I'm a big fan of the seymour duncan vapor trail. Had no expectations that it'd be good, but it's essentially a carbon copy, lovely dark repeats with super crazy oscilation, but with better mod controls and a flashing LED for tempo matching. Also has a TRS insert so you can use it as outboard gear for recording. Lovely thing and somewhat overlooked.

Hey McSleazy!

Are you sorry about it being a Behringer - so a rather cheap, non boutique pedal that's putting all the others in the pocket?
I'm looking for a more Echo-like pedal instead of my DD-7 (which is way too sterile for me) - and there is a B-VTM on an used-platform in my area for only 45 Bucks. What is speaking for/what against it? Have you ever had the chance to compare it to the EHX? PM or comment - could be interesting for others too!

Got mine for 35 or 40€ - 10 years ago. Still play it! Also love it with a LF-7 (lofi) in front for garage-esque vocals! No need to spend a fortune on a copper/carbonphone!

Best DOD bargain would be the FX96 if you can find one. Same chip as the Boss DM-2 for a fraction of the price usually. Otherwise, plus ones on the AD-9 or DM-2w if they're within your budget.

I’ve owned a boss dm-3 for years and love it. Some say it’s brighter than the dm-2 and that’s why they dislike them. To me it’s what I love about it. Plus they can be had under $150 all the day long. But I’m a sucker for boss stuff over boutiques.

Not going to lie... I actually prefer the vtm to the DMM. It has a nice dark tone I love. The only reason mine isn't on my board is its size. It's just too big.
I also dig the demos I've seen for the echoshifter. It's on my list of pedals to buy.
I think delay is a lot like dirt pedals, everyone has their own idea of perfect.
if you feel like doing some soldering and a rehouse, pick up the Dano mini blt slap back echo. You can replace a resistor with a pot to get some decent analog sounding delay. Uses same chip as malekko, kilobyte and many other "analog voiced" pedals.

Boss DM-2w

Maxon, ibanez, or dm2 seems to be what youre looking for. Potentialy malekko 616. Havent touched the behringer but that seems fine also. I also like tech 21 DLA as a no frills "analog" like delay. But you cant go wrong with maxon.

The ibanez ad-mini would be worth checking out, too. Sounds good, definitely in the ibanez/maxon family. You could also add in the mini chorus used and come close to your budget.
The boss dm2-w I tried was really cool, but it has some unwelcome noise on the repeats, kind of "fuzz on the needle" sounding.

Keep an eye out for an old ibanez or Yamaha rack, too, as they sometimes pop up a bit over that range.

what's the difference between Maxon Ad-90 pro and Ad-999, besides longer delay time in the 999?

Sadly the VTM is already gone. If it ever pops up again in my area I've to be quicker! But good news: a Boss RE20 is on it's way to me - got it for 92€ So basically half of the usual price! Let's see if it it's worth it's name and can compete with a (my) real Roland 201 Space Echo!

The Ibanez Echoshifter always looked (aesthetically) and sounded great to me (in demos) but I never tried it in person!
