your favorite sub-$150 analog delay/echo
i want one.
i'd love one with the ability to do 800ms or maybe 1sec, but it's not absolutely necessary.
used condition is fine. i certainly don't need clarity - more looking for a drip or smoosh. something thick.
a "mix" knob would be awesome but i know those appear more often w/ digital delays.
"analog voiced" is just fine, as long as it sounds DAMN good.
1
thinking about the Mr. Black Dark Echo (b/c of the sway knob).
2.
thinking about an old Maxon or Ibanez AD-9 variant
3
EQD Ghost Echo.
this is the strongest contender b/c it seems to have that magic smoosh.
i know it's sort of more like a reverb, but it sounds good.
Open to all advice.
not impressed with the Carbon Copy. (modulation barely audible)
not impressed with the DMB Lunar Echo (sounded good but too weak in the signal. crazy-noisy)

Re: your favorite sub-$150 analog delay/echo
I never liked the Carbon Copy either. Last year, I was looking for an analog-voiced delay and went through a TON of pedals at the store. Of the ones that didn't sound that great to me: newer EHX Memory Toy/Boy/Man series, MXR Carbon Copy (regular and bright), Malekko Ekko and Lo-Fi delay, Fairfield Meet Maude,
and the Endangered Audio 4096. Ok, that one sounded ok, but not for the $350/+ price tag. I've also had an EQD Avalanche Run, Line 6 DL4 modeler, and a Boss DD-3 (YEARS ago, before I knew tone existed). I currently have 6 (4 for guitar board) EQD Space Spiral, Dawner Prince Boonar ( ), Caroline Kilobyte, Alexander Radical 2 Plus, (1 for my bass board) Mooer Reecho Pro, and (1 in limbo depending on what's going on with my bass board) EQD Disaster Transport Jr.
From all my trying out of delay pedals last year, the EQD Disaster Transport Jr. sounded the best (not as warm as vintage Maxon AD900's, but at the time I didn't want something vintage incase it broke). For the money, you should also check out the Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo. I had one that I gave to a friend's son, and it killed!

love the DE-7, it'd be perfect if it had trails.
sadly i don't see them around for $50 anymore.
the Kilobyte is really cool but i didn't like all the "extra" it had.
plus i never used that noise function.

I also didn't think that the Kilobyte was within your price range. I didn't think I would use the feedback footswitch either, but I use it for a bit of feedback (think the intro to Pink Floyd's Sorrow). The Kilobyte doesn't have that much extra functionality, just the feedback, a gain knob for the repeats, and a knob for modulation.
The DE-7 could've definitely used some trails. It seems to me that the detractor for what you're looking for will be price. I've noticed that delay seems to be some of the most expensive pedals, looking at the category as a whole. What about an EQD Dispatch Master? It's got the mix knob for reverb and delay together which could give you a little of that smoosh.

DOD FX90. Not nearly as much delay time as you're looking for, but it does the wash of delay sound better than anything.

Yes. That is a damn nice sounding delay, and the 999 version is stereo I believe.preservation wrote:whoa, i see a Maxon AD-999 for a few bucks over my $150 limit.

I wish they were sub $150 in the UK.preservation wrote:...Boss RE-20...
I've not played around with a huge amount of analog delays but I have a DOD680 that sounds amazing. Typically warm & organic. It seems to still be one of those sleeper pedals. They've hardly changed in value in the 8 or so years I've had mine, even though it uses one of those Reticon chips that are increasingly hard to come by.
The same can be said for the old, big box MXR (not the Carbon Copy). Almost identical in tone to the DOD680 but, to my ears, not quite as dark & sweet. I had both at one point & A-B'd them before selling one on. I notice the MXRs sell for a bit more that the DODs. Why I don't know. Maybe blame Neil Young?
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.
