how to run a Fender Reverb Unit into 2 amps?

Post by doctorock78 » Mon Apr 24, 2017 5:53 pm

I always run stereo out of my last pedal into two Princeton Reverbs and it is fabulous. But now I am messing with a Reissue Fender Reverb unit and digging it. How can I get this into both amps? Is there a high quality box that can do this? Or even better yet one that can bump the signal back up to unity? (The Reverb Units suffer a small but noticeable drop in signal....)

For signal, I wonder if a buffer after the reverb tank would do the trick. I've never messed with vintage-style reverb units like that, so I don't know if they are good or bad with buffers...

As for the signal, I'd think it would be easiest to just place it second to last, before your stereo pedal, but if not, maybe you could use a splitter and not use the stereo output of that pedal? Like this: stereo pedal (mono output only) > reverb > splitter > two amps.

I have a Palmer Y-splitter made for just that thing, but I don't know if that would mess with your stereo signal from that last pedal. You could always get a pedal that is the opposite of a Y (sum?) that does two signals into one, and then split it back out. I know Brian (?) from Saturnworks Pedals does some pretty cool utility boxes like that...

EDIT: What's that last pedal that's stereo? Reverb or delay?

Hmmm... Can't place it second to last as they recommend it have as short a cable run as possible between VERB and amp. The last pedal is an El Capistan. I don't really use it for stereo effect, just to give full signal to both amps. If you ever noticed when you daisy chain 2 fender amps (in input 1 jack / out input 2 jack to 2nd amp...) you lose a bit of signal volume / clarity...

I haven't actually run two Fender amps together, but it sounds like you might be describing a phasing issue between the two amps. A good splitter will send one signal to ground and the other output will be isolated, so as not to create a ground loop.

As for the reverb issue, if you aren't using the El Capistan for a stereo sound, I think a separate splitter box would work perfect for you.
Something like either of these:

I've actually had both and they work great.
