Reverb For Bass Rig
I'm looking for something reasonably cheap and happened to find the TC Electronic Skysurfer. Anybody try it? For $50 it sounds fantastic, and has top jacks too!
I'm also looking at one of the Mooer ones (SkyVerb or ShimVerb), which I've actually heard demos of on bass. I didn't think I'd give a crap about the shimmer, but it sounds cool with bass...

You can always buy the Zoom MS-70CDR, which has more reverb and delay options than most sane people will really need, and you can have 6 effects at a time. I've been using one for bass since last august and it works really well.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
That's kind of exactly what I'm trying to get away from honestly. I appreciate the suggestion, but I don't like banks of hidden things. I like switches and knobs, with very little hidden stuff. I'm not really looking for other suggestions either, just curious about the TC reverb I asked about.

I think for bass especially, reverb + a little chorus sounds even better. Try a Behringer chorus pedal - Behringer makes great $30 - $60 dollar pedals.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
Really? I've always wanted to like chorus on guitar, but it never sticks. I like the sound, but not when I'm playing. But, I've never had a bass rig before either. Once I finish building my bass, maybe I'll try it out.Groovy Tunes wrote:I think for bass especially, reverb + a little chorus sounds even better. Ah right, gotcha. I know what you mean. "Show us yer knobs!" (cheap Ooh-err).Shadoweclipse13 wrote:That's kind of exactly what I'm trying to get away from honestly. If you're into psychedelic rock or shoegaze, you will really, really like it. And BTW I have a few TC pedals (phaser, flanger) and they are pretty rad.Shadoweclipse13 wrote:Really? Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
I know some bassists like the boss frv1 because it's so obnoxiously bright it sits right on top of the bass sound.

I'm not a huge fan of Boss pedals, but I might have to try that out. Also kinda contemplating a Dwarfcraft Twin Stags.MechaBulletBill wrote:I know some bassists like the boss frv1 because it's so obnoxiously bright it sits right on top of the bass sound.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
To be fair, some Boss pedals are better than others though - but that is also true of any company. The DD-7 and Space Echo are some of the best delay pedals ever made, and some of the best pedals over all ever made. I'm a huge boutique pedal guy and I still have respect for what Boss does better than any other company: Make the most efficient, inexpensive, and durable pedal without sacrificing any tonal quality.Shadoweclipse13 wrote:I'm not a huge fan of Boss pedals, but I might have to try that out.
You should check out that FRV1 because it sounds amazing and thats coming from someone who has used one.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
Boss pedals are solid, but for me, they stand too tall and I also don't like side jacks. I've had plenty of Boss pedals before, but I always found better sounding stuff.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
my bassist uses a Ric 4003 into an RV-3. that goes into an old Ampeg SVT.
a bit over-the-top for bass reverb, but it does sound good and deep.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
I don't know what I'm doing for a bass amp yet, but I am gona get a Tech 21 VT DI for sure. The RV series is that good? Do they have different reverb types?

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
I've liked my Catalinbread Talisman on bass. It has a high pass filter so you can limit the low end that gets fed to the reverb to avoid muddiness, and you can mess with the pre-delay for slapback effects. Sound-wise it's a one-trick pony, but it's a good trick if you like plate reverb. It just makes a nice bright halo around the notes.

Re: Reverb For Bass Rig
Sorry, this has nothing to do with bass Reverb, but reading "4003" and "old SVT" in the same sentence made me start salivating. That's my dream bass setup - must sound absolutely badass.preservation wrote:my bassist uses a Ric 4003 into an RV-3. that goes into an old Ampeg SVT.
