jhs vcr
Watched videos. Seems cool. 3 pedals for 1 price. Plus it matches my kilobyte delay.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

This has such a nice confluence of sound, aesthetics, and era. That said, I'd just get a CE-2 and RV-2 for the $270 street price, using whatever was leftover for some Atari console.

I'm guessing the volume is primarily geared towards implementing it as a boost maybe?

Seriously! If you need a "V" for your " VCR" concept, why not VIBRATO? It has a v, it goes with chorus and some pretty famous modulation units combine the two quite well. Heck, it goes nicely with reverb too.Unicorn Warrior wrote:I'm guessing the volume is primarily geared towards implementing it as a boost maybe?
Epic. Fail.

Its based on Ryan Adams (hence his name on it) signature sound from the last 3 or 4 albums. He doesn't use vibrato.fuzzjunkie wrote:Seriously! I was super excited about this pedal until I heard how the actual chorus sounds. Meh.

Re: jhs vcr
I like the aesthetics of the pedal and hate them at the same time, and I don't like/use any of the effects in the pedal. Also, JHS is one of those pedal companies where people always bring up their reputation (like what I am doing). No matter how far away they get from making thinly disguised clones, it still sort of bugs me.
If some other company I liked more made a pedal with graphics like that and effects I actually use I would be gassing hard, and feeling like a sucker for falling for 80s video tape graphics.
I worked at a video store; I came of age with VHS tapes! I CAN'T HELP IT.

^^^
I think the graffixxx are cringey, crude and derivative* and really don't work on that sort of pedal box. I'm wondering what they have to do with Ryan Adams, isn't he a sort of double denim insert appropriate Grammy category here traditionalist?
D
*though most other pedals are just as bad.

Ha! Ok, so what you're saying is that it's a Double Fail...

Its a fantastic pedal....IF you like the sound of the volume, chorus and reverb... but you can turn all three on with one switch which is really nice.
It sounds to me like a replica of an electro-harmonix chorus and the reverb of some newer fender hot rod amps put together.

Idk if your jhs hate is based off the Devi situation, the high price, or the runoffgroove clone... But honestly,O Drones wrote:Fuck JHS forever tbh
This is clearly an original circuit and the past is the past. Let us not forget companies such as Ibanez started their business making strat and LP clones. And Devi herself bases many of her circuits on other pedals (IC muff, tonebender, etc).
If you don't want to support a company that's trying to grow and move forward... That's on you.
Personally I feel like JHS became the whipping boy for doing the same practices as SOOO many other companies.
Ive personally talked to reps from big brand pedal companies that have spoken disparagingly about their competitors to try to get me to buy their product instead...so you can't say JHS is the only one doing it and hold them to a higher standard than others.
As for high price... Look at other boutiques. Copper sound pedals is asking $250 for an 8 component boost pedal... So again, JHS isn't doing anything unheard of.
