subdecay starlight MK2 versus Moog MF flange

Post by preservation » Fri Mar 24, 2017 8:34 am

I've never really been into flanger that much, but after hearing these two pedals I am really stoked.
Has anyone ever tried these ?

Seems that the Subdecay does a lot more in terms of shape/S&H,
but I get the feeling the Moog might have the upper hand in terms of "chewiness".
I also prefer the Moog layout (too jacks/exp pedal ability/look).

They can be had for approx the same price used, and I really don't know which way I'm leaning.

No experience with either of those, but I've been intrigued by the sceptre (I think?) by Chase Bliss Audio. Might be too much to spend on a flanger though.

yeah, too much $ for me - sounds great and squishy though.
$120-150 is A-OK to me.

Trying the Starlight first.
I have the Moog MF Chorus and it's awesome... but does NOT nail the 80s chorus sound I love like the Ibanez SC10 does.

the Starlight rules.
capable of some very thick stuff. i'd probably only ever use the Sample&Hold, 8step, and 16step after a 100%wet delay or reverb trail...
BUT
the pseudo-chorus/metallic flange/swoosh stuff is on point.

unlike my Ibanez chorus, it adds no volume boost or drop - just effects your signal.

EASILY does the Duran Duran Come Undone sound, which i didn't even realize until i accidentally got the sound:

also really comes super-close to the Andy Summers Police tone.

really stoked about this pedal and frankly surprised i like a flanger pedal as much as i do.
the Moog MF Chorus is going back online for sale. in fact i think the Starlight covers all the Moog's bases.
