Best Chorus Pedal
What's the best Chorus-only pedal (no trem, flange required)? I was kind of looking at an old Ibanez Cs9, but I wanted to see if there is something new and better/cheaper. I'm going for 80's sounds kind of like Cleaners from Venus or Chameleons UK or something.

Re: Best Chorus Pedal
They were using a Roland RE-501 for most of it, so I'd recommend chorused repeats on a delay (a la deluxe memory man).Singlebladepickup wrote:Chameleons UK or something.
The CS9 is pretty great, but a bit meatier than boss choruses (more stone roses style).
Boss CE-2B is a great budget vintage one.

Any EHX Clone *except* the Nano Clone. I'm pretty sure there's something actually wrong with that pedal but they are still for sale. Small Clone / Neo Clone / Clone Theory are all winners though
I keep eyeing up that Ibanez Mini chorus at the moment, I don't think it's a straight CS9 (three knobs instead of two) but it sounds good in demos.

Ah, very good point. I have a Neo and forget about the Nano, probably because it gets such shite reviews.daria wrote:Any EHX Clone *except* the Nano Clone. Arion stereo chorus. I'll sign on to the EHX love, too.
This is an excellent rectangle

Re: Best Chorus Pedal
When I was looking for a chorus, it came down to the Malekko Omicron and the Catalinbread Callisto, both using the MN3007 chip. I eventually went for the Callisto and have no regrets.

Re: Best Chorus Pedal
Small/Neo Clone has been my go-to for ages. It's the only chorus pedal I've heard that sounds nice and shimmery without needing some kind of reverb or delay to help it along, something that's been chronic for me with the Boss units. That being said, I dug having my old CS-9 too for the John Squire sounds.
Honestly, just line a bunch up at a guitar store with an amp and guitar like yours and give 'em a go. That's the best way to find out. Sometimes you'll be surprised what you like compare to what your heroes used. I love the Andy Summers but no amount of love for him made the mysterious swirl of the Electric Mistress work for me.

Re: Best Chorus Pedal
Boss CE-2w is really good. Expensive though for that price you can get your hands on almost anything new or vintage. The CE-1 setting is pretty nice, the CE-2 setting is pretty straight up 80's but I really like the Ce-1 Vibrato setting though. Different than the VB-2. Plus stereo is nice.

EHX Small Clone. I don't even like chorus pedals, but I love the Small Clone.
