The Collins clone is stupendous.

I've been getting Neil Young-y trash sounds out of the box with no problem.  It's been nice running it into my Honey Bee for darkening purposes.

Definitely a keeper.  Lordy!

As cool as the Barge Concepts clone looks, I may have to see about giving Chuck Collins a call - his place is probably not too far from my girlfriend's house.

Heh, apparently he's keeping his eye on the competition:

"Sorry Barge Concepts, it indeed does use NPN and PNP transistors!"

from: http://pages.prodigy.net/chuckcollins/percolator.html

He also includes circuit board pics of an original (http://pages.prodigy.net/chuckcollins/oldpercolator.jpg) and the repro (http://pages.prodigy.net/chuckcollins/newpercolator.jpg).

That guy trademarked a name he didn't come up with for a product he didn't design, that's incredibly shady behavior. I wouldn't buy a product from somebody who did that. Unless he had the original inventors permission.

Copyrights and trademarks do expire.

The pedal hasn't been manufactured in over 30 years.  I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if Mr. Collins simply picked up the name and trademarked/copywrited it himself.

That being said, the pedal sounds too good for me to care either way.

I honestly don't care, because the BP-1 sounds awesome and with the boost, it becomes a whole other, incredibly cool, thing.

I hope this sparks a price war.

That would be great, because I'd buy both boxes.

I just think it's kinda weird to act all defensive about somebody else making a copy of something that you copied yourself. Know what I mean? The trademark thing is just a legality to me it doesn't really represent any "Intellectual Property" which is the term I think they use in Europe. I would have no problem if the guy didn't appear to be so overzealous about the product as if he invented it, cause he didn't. That's just my 2cents. I didn't mean to bag on anybody who owned or enjoyed the product.

The reason the guy is so defensive about it, is it actually took a lot of investigative work to reverse engineer it, if you believe or care at all about the hype they're spitting. The original percolators had paint covering parts so that no one new what they were. Barge Concepts reverse engineered theirs from schematics and pictures passed around on the internet. Chuck Collins says that he took 3 apart and individually tested each part to figure out what it was, and that BPs version is wrong. It's good that he sees them as good competition, he's selling a great pedal, and the BP1 is a little cheaper. The only way to solve this dispute is in the Thunderdome.

I have never heard a distortion/fuzz clean up as nicely as this one.

I go from "10" to "8" on my guitar, and I get a whole new wonderful sound.

Awesome.  Simply awesome.

One more note: I have never heard a Jaguar's "strangle" switch make such a difference.  It's really impressive.

Anybody else out there with a Jaguar and a Percolator clone?  Check it out for yourself!

The strangle switch makes a huge difference on my Danelectro French Toastouytreqawphbgv ciklm,. With a flick of a switch you can go from full out fuzz to a ratty garage sound.
