I just found this from earlier in this thread. Does anyone have any idea a good way to do things like the black plate here? For my pickup tester box I'm designing, I really want some plates like that to note what knobs and switches do what. Kinda like this:

I'd love to be able to etch them myself out of plastic, but I'm ok ordering some too. Even if it was an overlay decal, that'd be cool.

Start looking at local engraving places. You have to have at least a half dozen within stone's throw. They'll have different capabilities, materials and techniques. A basic etch on a black/white material shouldn't be too much money.

Dude, sweet! Thanks Parry! Is that stuff pretty expensive usually?

Depends on the place, really. The trick might be finding a mom and pop that doesn't mind playing around with different ideas to help get you what you want - price shouldn't be tooo bad.

I would think trophy shops would be a good place to look as well.

Interesting. Something else I hadn't considered either. I'll have to check that out too. Thanks dude!

That was just paper I glued onto a piece of plastic and clear cloated. A better option would be to use several coats of modge podge. After about 6-8 (maybe more?) coats, it should be thick enough to wet sand smooth (cuz you'll probably get brush lines) and then clear coat.

Thanks for the tip Storyboardist!! I might try that ;D

Want to pick the brain of you guys who designs circuits a bit for a sec.

I had this idea on the way home yesterday, for an analog sample box. I was thinking about guitars with momentary killswitches in them, and then remembered the mod that Simon The Magpie did to his Electro Faustus EF-109 Drone Thing BUTTON MODIFICATION with momentary buttons. My idea is/was simple: several "channels" with an input jack, momentary on (NO) and momentary off (NC) switch, a switch to choose the NO or NC switch, and then a single output jack.

The thought was that I could take a sound (oscillator or a sample from a song or anything really) from any source into a jack, and then to either the NO or NC switch for a few seconds of a sound, or a stutter effect to something that's playing. I might even get crazy and put a couple oscillators in the box itself.

My question is, would I need a buffered circuit to mix all those separate incoming signals into a single output? I figured that headphone output/line level would likely be ok mixed as is, but if I put a couple oscillators in there, would they need some sort of buffering?

Since I talked about it in another thread I thought I might as well post my pedals here.

First is my broadcast:
Image

It's actually a Coplit FX Broadcast LFO but I rehoused it so I could add some more switches and knobs. I can now select three different LFO speeds.

Second is my one-two-fuck-yeah-fuzz:
Image

It's a combination of a bunch of different circuits all built on stripboard. First in line is an antibuffer circuit, then comes a jfet clean blend and finally a modded green russian big muff with mids and gate controls and a wooly mammoth fuzz. "fuck" is the bypass switch, "yeah" toggles between the two fuzzes.

Next up is my dynacomp:
Image

This is just what it says and is built from a kit. I added a bright switch similar to the jangle box, though.

This is a bypass looper:
Image

The right switch bypasses both loops, middle switch is loop 1 and left switch is loop 2. I originally planned to add two super hard on boosters in each loop but I never did so the knobs don't have a function.

Last one I did is the electric druid:
Image

It's the tap lfo from the electric druid website but I somehow fucked it up and it doesn't work. I can't find out what's wrong but it still looks nice I think...

Dude, I LOVE your sense of aesthetics with these. I have this deep love of 70's Sci-Fi, and those hit ALL the marks for me. Your Broadcast is amazing, but your Dyna Comp 72 is friggin' amazing!!

Those are indeed some fine looking boxes.

Yes and no.

The simple answer is just wire up a an opamp mixer with 100k summing resistor/pots, your sources will be perfectly happy driving that and the opamp will be perfectly happy driving most everything but mic pres and speakers. You can do it without but your output impedance will be highish and performance will be dictated by the input impedance of what you plug it into.

There are about 100 ways to do this on the cheap and get decent performance, but it is really hard to beat an opamp and a few resistors unless you have some specific requirements.

The one exception being, if there is more circuitry in the box following the mixer, since impedances are controlled here, there can be a real case for the ease of passive summing, especially if you are doing fixed level, or you can often times combine the mixer into the following circuitry and get a free lunch.

Yes, me too I'm very into this 70s style. I think Electro Harmonix should employ me for their pedal graphics, should'nt they? ;D

all you need now is a faux wood grain pedal

They totally should. I could see your bypass looper and your one two as an actual EHX pedal. A bit reminiscent with the white painted enclosures under the graphics.
