recommend me some sub-100 bucks multi-fx for my synths

Post by fuzzking » Thu Feb 22, 2018 1:57 pm

tables are getting too crowded with stomp boxes... i wanna pick up a cheapo multi fx unit or two, preferrably with some half decent modulation stereo fx (auto-pan, chorus, etc). patch storage would be nice. digitech? zoom? never used multi-fx in my life, so i have no idea what to get. no rack units, please. :)

btw.: thomann are blowing out the soundcraft fx 16II mixers at half of the listing price (999 > 555 € at thomann UK). 16 true channels, inserts & direct outs on all channels, 2 stereo buses, lexicon fx, 3 auxes., no usb bullshit. insane bang for buck. :w00t:

I found a used DOD TEC8 that I use with a Casio MT-400V. I can't speak that much to the modulation (seems fine though), but I so LOVE to use the drum machine with delay and have the expression pedal controlling the bitcrusher blend.

I always liked the old Alesis Midiverb4 and Quardraverb2/GT, the Korg A2 is also fun. The Midiverb4 has one of the most ridiculous reverbs ever, it is kinda great.
Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.

I recommend looking at the Zoom CDR-70. Great pedal!

This. It's absurdly good, it's got a ton of trippy effects and it's small as a regular pedal.

I'll also suggest the MS70-CDR. Best 90 quid I ever spent for a guitar pedal!
This is a signature. If you're reading this you've gone past the end of my post.

I got an MS50G for $65 used and am pretty thrilled with it. The delays are nuts, and there's a couple of computer editors and a ton of patches on the Multistomp subreddit.

The cool thing about rack multi-effects is that, starting around the 80s, they were sold in profusion. Budget ones can be picked up used for pennies on the dollar and some of the crown jewels of those early days can also be found for not much more. An SPX90 is a good place to start. Don't be fooled by the specs; it sounded good then and it will sound good today.

These old rack FX are so inexpensive these days that you can buy, sell, trade, and experiment to your heart's content until you find a few that suit you're needs. It's a wonderful rabbit hole you're descending into. Don't forego the opportunity to try some single FX units as well; my Digitech RDS units are my favorite delays in spite of (or perhaps because of) their low-fi 8 bit technology.

Not my recording but a good example of the really far left field possibilities...
