Fender Princeton Reverb 68 VS Vox AC15C1
Wich one do you think is the best? I'm trying to sell a guitar to buy a decent amp and i'm thinking about these two. This would be my first ''real'' amp and for now i'm just in my appartment (so AC10 could probably be an option too) but looking to maybe rent a little jam place with friends.
I know there is like $300-400 difference between the to so yeah wich one would you pick ? I'm mostly playing Indie rock/neopsych and a little bit of shoegaze. Looking for that Brian Jonestown Massacre, Asteroid no4 , Galaxie 500, velvet, spacemen3 etc.. vibe
Playing with a MIJ Jaguar and I'll probably get a gretsch electromatic or something hollow
Thanks all.

Both are good amps. Fenders and Voxes sound different. Some folks prefer one sound to the other. Play them both and buy the one you prefer.

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb 68 VS Vox AC15C1
If you like the pedals you have and don't want to try something else, i'd say the Princeton. Quality of the reverb, the Princeton. More clean headroom, probably the Princeton again (not as familiar with where the 68 begins to distort).
Alternatively, I greatly prefer the driven sounds of a Vox, as well as the tremolo. Not everyone likes the sound of a 10" speaker, and the AC15 has a 12". The Vox also looks cooler.
As stated above though, they both sound completely different and have their pluses and minuses. If it were me, for half your influences i'd say a Vox, the other half Fender, so its a wash. Try them both. I'd recommend taking your Jag with you, mine hated my AC30 but loved every Fender amp it was ever plugged into.

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb 68 VS Vox AC15C1
Not necessarily bad, but different. I didn't care for most modulation or delays in front of my AC30, but most were fine in the loop. It was finicky with dirt, I just couldn't get some pedals to sound good through it that are great through my other amps. That led to an embarrassingly large collection of dirt pedals. This was never an issue with my other amps (Fender, Ampeg, Marshall, Mesa).DocCarlson wrote:Finally, I have never understood the "doesn't take pedals well" thing, but it is repeated so often how could it possibly be false? I just don't know what the criteria are for "good" interaction with pedals. All three of my AC15s have sounded fine with my pedals.
Experimentation is key, and not everyone wants to go through that. If the OP doesn't use pedals, that whole point about pedal 'friendliness' is moot.

I agree with what's been said above. I would lean toward the Princeton.

indeed i often use both a hand wired AC15 Heritage, and a BF Princeton Reverb together. deep, clear, chimey and grindy tones are all on tap!

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb 68 VS Vox AC15C1
I own similar amps (FSR Surf PRRI 65 ans Ac15c2). The Princeton is my go-to amp because of what have already been said. The Princeton sounds great with all my effects; the Vox love some effects and dont like other. The reverb sound way better in the Princeton. With a couple of effects, the Princeton is more versatile.
That being said, the Vox does the british light distortion like no other amp. In my last band, my bandmates liked my sound better when I was playing thru my Ac15c2.

I have an AC15C1, and for the money you can't beat it, but if I had to choose, I'd go Princeton.
The AC15 is just kind of finicky, it's a little more work to find good tones, especially with Dirt Pedals. When you do find them, they are awesome. When I hook to my Buddy's Princeton, it's almost automatic.
I love my AC15, but I'm probably selling it to buy a Princeton or a Princeton clone.

Be aware that the '68 PRRI is wired to have LESS headroom than the standard PRRI.
The bigger speaker in the Vox will make it much louder, too.

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb 68 VS Vox AC15C1
I have a Princeton Reverb & a Vox AC15CC1X with Celestion Alnico Blue Spkr. I prefer the Blue Spkr over the other Vox Spkr offerings. IMO it is the best sounding & well worth the extra cost.
I use the same Pedalboard on both Amps. It includes an Original Janglebox, Ibanez TS808, Boss DD-5 Digital Delay, Boss 63 Fender Reverb & a Danelctro Tremelo. I have several different Guitars & they all get played through both Amps using the same Pedals. (I have at least a dozen other Pedals that I find unnecessary stored away, less is more for me).
Both Amps sound great with Pedals. I'm not a fan of Amp Reverbs & much prefer the 63 Fender Reverb Pedal. Almost as much as a real Fender 63 Stand Alone Reverb Unit.
The Princeton is easier to haul around as it's lighter & has a smaller footprint. But isn't nearly as loud as the Vox.
I find my Vox has more Clean at higher volume than the Princeton. I do like the Top Boost on Vox for beautiful sounding controlled Dirt at whatever volume.
I do like the simplicity of the Princeton. It's like the Tele of Amps.
Both are great choices. You really need both!
I guess I'm not much help!

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb 68 VS Vox AC15C1
I actually just traded for an AC15C1 today.
Kind of a spur of the moment thing. A local guy had the AC15 and said he would swap it for Deluxe Reverb Reissue plus cough up cash. Anyway I happened to have a DDRI but truly love Voxes. I have a 70's AC30.
Let me just say with my AV65 Jazzer the AC15 is a rude little fucker! Compared to the DRRI it is a bit of a problem child. The AC15 will be harder to reign in eq wise and control the headroom but I think that will be the fun part.
Fender you know what you'll get. Twiddle the knobs on a Vox it may leave you guessing.
