Gotta agree with this. My old rig was a dr103 with a marshall 800 4x12 cab + big muff + big box rat. Sounded huge af.mynameisjonas wrote:Hiwatt DR103.

Re: Whats your fave amp with a big muff?
My vintage Hiwatt DR504 (with early 70s cabinet with 50 watt Fanes) sounds awesome with my Diceworks ram's head clone muff pedal (and 1980 Big muff also). The Hiwatt is one of my favorite amps, as I like to say, it's as if a Marshall and a Fender amp had a child: It's bit cleaner and more defined than a Marshall style amp, but it has MUSCLE and deep tight bass response that not whimpy Fender could ever deliver (not that Fenders don't also have their own charms, an overdriven tweed deluxe can produce a very cool sound). Hiwatts make great pedal amps. I've also liked my Big Muff playing through an Orange half stack.

I have a few amps Hot Rod Deluxe, AC30, Fender Super 60, and a Jet City but my Muff sounds awesome with my cranked Fender Blues jr!

I don't have a lot of comparisons but I've played a JHS Muffuletta which has 7 big muff circuits in one pedal and my AC30 sounds the best. I've played through a twin reverb and hot rod deville as well.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm torn between getting an ac30 with a little more headroom, or a Ampeg vt-22, and never having to worry about midrange or headroom ever again.

Re: Whats your fave amp with a big muff?
I don't have much big muff or amp experience outside of what I own, but I have an NYC and a couple Russians and they all sound good, and "correct" with my twin reverb, my Princeton, my champ when I still had it, and my VT-40.
The NYC doesnt get loud enough on any of my bigger amps though- it maxes out at being slightly quieter than clean unless the amp is at bedroom volume.

Any Traynor Head with 6CA7s, My Garnet Deputy. Fender Excelsior Pro (Seafoam green version sounds best...don't know why but the colour affects the tone somehow. I may be biased as this is the colour Excelsior Pro I have...)

Re: Whats your fave amp with a big muff?
I was being funny with the colour making a difference. The "Pro" versions (blue, seafoam and pink) do have the upgraded speaker compared to the Plain-Jane normal one with the brown vinyl covering. Worth the price difference in my opinion because the tolex seems more durable and the speaker is that much better.MechaBulletBill wrote:Weren't the seafoam ones an FSR with an upgraded speaker?

Re: Whats your fave amp with a big muff?
I like them primarily through British-style EL34 amps. Never had much luck with them running through Fenders (primarily blackface Bassmen/silverface Twins) in a band context, though they sound great in the studio. I'd say my favorite was an IC muff through my 70s Vox AC-50, but my ARC Green BM sounds amazing through my Selmer Tn'B Mk. II.

That first sentence was the most obviously Canadian thing I've ever read on an online gear forum. Love it. Also, you have good taste in amps.Drewbertca wrote:Any Traynor Head with 6CA7s, My Garnet Deputy.
