I know J Mascis - a man of many Muffs - sometimes uses the 100w Twin Amp from the 90s. I don't know if they're much different in value from the Red Knob Twin.

Re: Redknob the twin vs twin reverb 65 reissue.
I had a red knob twin in the late 90's. It convinced me to start buying vintage Fender.
Not that it was a bad amp, perfectly serviceable, but not as nice as the vintage ones id started getting access to.
I've never been exposed to one of the reissues for any prolonged period of time. For tone id rate them above the red knob But not as good as the originals (by originals I include silver face). I'm going off some foggy memories, Your results may vary.
One thing I'd say about the red knob, it had a slightly different tone stack in the mid areas, and I recall liking it with my muff.

Yeah the Rivera era fenders and the red knob ones definitely have a more pronounced mid range than what you would consider the '"typical fender sound" to have.shoule79 wrote:

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

^^^ which is a pretty good thing when it comes to pairing with a Big Muff, which is often completely useless in an ensemble mix.

I've seen a lot of red knob Fenders in the shop but almost none on a stage.

Thanks so much for that tidbit of information. Now I'm very interested, considering finding a good amp for my big muff is my main concern.

get something that isn't a fender then, although as i mentioned the red knob amps tend to have more midrange there are much better amps out there for that purposeKadenray wrote:Thanks so much for that tidbit of information. Re: Redknob the twin vs twin reverb 65 reissue.
My advice would be to look for an old silver face Twin from the '70s -- the master volume ones can be affordable. Get it "blackfaced" by a good tech and you'll have a great amp with far more reliability and tone than either of those circuit-board amps. Silverface Twins are surprisingly cheap compared to other vintage Fenders, probably due to the fact that they're way too heavy and loud for most people's purposes.

I wonder how hard it'd be to voice a SF Twin like a Sunn model T? The Hovercraft stuff is always said to be minimally-messed with, so what would that require? A couple transistors here or there?

IDK if that would be possible. The hovercraft amps are all just rebadged jet city's, I don't think they have any of their own circuits.Mechanical Birds wrote:I wonder how hard it'd be to voice a SF Twin like a Sunn model T? Wasn't the model T based on a bassman?

Re: Redknob the twin vs twin reverb 65 reissue.
That's why I brought it up - most of the amp is there, they just throw a few small parts in it to change the voicing and boom, you allegedly have a T. I have no idea what parts go into "voicing" an amp though so who knows.sa1126 wrote:IDK if that would be possible.
