I gotta tell you. I was specifically considering this exact setup as a stereo rig. I bet it sounds phenomenal!

Cool! Yeh I hope so. I've always run a two amp rig...it just sounds better and there's no way of getting around it. This is kind of a modern version of the classic period Marr/McGeoch amp set up. Having a stereo chorused amp and the other one dry just makes for a great wide full sound without the chorus being too overpowering.

Definitely looking forward to the review of the Roland. I'm hovering between a JC77 and a JC40 right now. If the 40 works as a Bass VI/JM pedal platform for gigging, the stereo path and (hopefully) quieter circuitry are really appealing.

Really.
If cleans is your thing,as in Rolands chorus, try looking a later revision (-70´s) Roland Bolt up.

Like the MusicMan amps these are hybrids with a silicon powered front end and tube powerstage (incl phaseinverter). They came as 30/60 and 100 watters. Mainly combos, although heads are to be found.

The cleans and reverb are to die for,if cleans is your thing. They DO sport a lead channel too but...it just friggin sux.

Have converted a few of them to full tube and they are by any measure rather high quality japanese made amps. Speakers might leave something to be desired though.

I'm really curious how the wee JC goes and I never knew those reissue Vibrolux were that good, I've only ever had a go of a reissue black deluxe and twin and they were forgettable if usable.

Yeah the '68 Customs are something else. I agree that the '65 RI line is pretty sterile. But these are everything but. The '68 Custom Vibrolux is my go to amp for guitar test drives at work. There's never been a reverb that sounds like this. Fendery but also buttery. Hard to describe. You gotta play it.

I bought 2 weeks ago a Vibrolux '68 Custom because my PRRI was not clean enough for the sound I want in my new project. Although I love the amp, I still need a touch more headroom. I know the Celestion Ten 30 are not really robust speakers and I hava a Ragin Cajun laying around. What would you put in a Custom '68 Vibrolux Reverb to increase headroom while keeping the Fender sound? Would you pair the Ragin Cajun with another speaker (like the Copperhead maybe)?

PS : I dont dislike the sound of the Ten 30, I just want a little more volume before the amp breakup.

Well the 2x10 JC-40 has gone. Didn't like it at all. The problem is it doesn't really sound like a Jazz Chorus. The original classic BBD Chorus circuit is gone, replaced with a digital emulation on a DSP chip...which isn't even an emulation to my ears, just a different chorus altogether. The spring reverb is gone...replaced by a digital hall reverb..I'm all for new sounds but the tone of the amp left a lot to be desired to me...I just didn't like it. Also the wattage is halved to 2x20w compared to the JC-77 at 2x40w. On a transistor amp that headroom is needed.

It's now been replaced with a 2x10 JC-77...which is on another level in comparison..its got all the analogue goodness of the original JC's for less money..and a better distortion circuit too!

Still got the vibrolux '68 custom and still love it.

I love my JC77. Analog and loud (enough). Congrats

Also something I never realised....JC's are built in Japan and the USA. This JC-77 says 'made in the USA' on it...never seen that before.

Congrats! I love my '68 Custom Vibrolux. If you're worried about early breakup, just plug into input 2. I use that input the most. Sure, it's a little "quieter" but you'll have more headroom and it will get PLENTY loud for gigging.
