Quilter amps
I've been playing quilter amps for the last 2 years with my AVRI 62 Jaguar, and they are fantastic amps. I've played tube amps my whole life until these came along and I gave one a shot on a whim. I now own 2 quilters and only have one tube amp left. They are super light, super loud, and perform the same at different volume settings. Give one a shot if you get a chance.

Re: Quilter amps
i come across these amps quite often among my older pro player friends, and especially steel players. these guys could justify, and afford, any amp they want... i think the clincher for them is the light weight. but of course they need quality, reliability and tone. the quilter seems very well made, and sounds great in their hands!
meanwhile, i'm still clinging to my heavy and noisy vintage amp projects... but i am still my own roadie and staring to feel it!

Re: Quilter amps
I'm pretty interested in these and have done some research on them. I'm really glad that someone took the ball and ran with the Powerblock concept after Crate stopped making them. I also REALLY like that a lot of their amps seem to come with Trem as a normal option. Haven't run into any in the wild yet though. Hmm...

I've been interested in them but the demos never quite do it for me to get me to buy one and there's nowhere to play one.

Re: Quilter amps
Yeah, like most solid state amp makers the demos always seem to be "doesn't this sound just like a tube amp!" I'd rather they just focused on "this sounds great! And oh yes, it's SS."Ben17e wrote:I've been interested in them but the demos never quite do it for me to get me to buy one and there's nowhere to play one.

There's one of these up the local GC. No idea it was solid state. I might actually have to give a try if it's still there next time I'm by.

I really like the look of the Aviator series amps. You don't really see them much in the UK though so I've never had a chance to try one in person.

Re: Quilter amps
I've been playing a Quilter Aviator for over a year now. It's a great amp. I bought the Aviator head and finally settled on a 1X15 cab with a Weber Neo. My other amp is a Vox AC15 Heritage Handwired. By comparison, the Quilter lacks some depth, but it's a very good sounding amp at any volume.

Re: Quilter amps
I have the Steelaire and really dig it. At first it sounds really tight and a bit hifi, but as the speaker breaks in it's really warming up. Some people complain about the lack of bass, but I don't get it. The bass is there it's just really tight and not boomy. The reverb is very usable, it ain't "surfy", but you can get close. The tremolo is very usable as well. With both, if you push the limits it will sound processed, but there are sweet spots. The two channels with individual gain is nice, switchable, and can be combined. Channel one is a little brighter. Channel two a little mellower. You can dial in overdrive on each channel or combine the two for some very heavy distortion. Combining also doubles the volume. It can get as loud as you can handle. The DI sounds really good as well. I was skeptical so I plugged it into a board and listened in with headphones and it's good. A little mellower than micing the speaker, but good quality.
I'm not endorsed or affiliated with Quilter in any way. I'm just really happy with this amp.

Re: Quilter amps
Great sounding amps,Imo.
My friend's friend brought over a tone block & raved about it.
I ordinarily am a bit skeptical of new technology,
but Ron played bass for D. Dale & the Del Tones from the very beginning
so I figured He probably knows his vintage fender tones.
Seems like they are finally getting the gain stages to sound more tube-ish,
I heard several untubed amps at NAMM this year that really had me fooled.

I've been playing a Tone Block 200 for a few months now and absolutely love it. Running it through my recently-purched '85 Marshall 4x10 (yes, you read that right, Marshall 4x10) and it's just beautiful. Reacts extremely well with effects too, including every dirt pedal I've thrown its way (Fulldrive, Tonebender, Foxxtone, Big Muff, Amptweaker TightMetal, Proco Turbo Rat).

Re: Quilter amps
Wow, these look really interesting, especially the tiny ones that fit on a pedal board.
Is it capable of producing a good overdrive on its own, without any pedals?nikkij wrote:I've been playing a Tone Block 200 for a few months now and absolutely love it. I'm really thinking about pulling the trigger on a 101 soon. The guys over at surfguitar101 love them.
Then I'll build myself a 1x15 cab

Re: Quilter amps
I quite like the drive it produces! It won't go beyond a crunch though, so no hard rock or metal tones to be had unless you use a pedal.mynameisjonas wrote:Wow, these look really interesting, especially the tiny ones that fit on a pedal board.
