Re: Quilter amps
Thread resurrection!
The last gig my band had was a disaster because we decided not to bring our own amps (to save our backs and be able to have a few drinks). I ended up playing a beat up old Hagström solid state amp that would just randomly double the volume or go silent or start crackling. Total shit show. So when I came across a Mini 101 Head on a Halloween sale I couldn't resist.
I've only spent a few hours with it, but I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It sounds a lot better than all the Youtube demos suggest. The controls are a bit weird, but they do allow you to dial in good sounding approximations of both a blackface Fender and a cranked JTM45, and a bunch of other good sounding stuff inbetween.
Now I'm going to have to convince my bandmates to get Quilters too, we'll never need a designated driver again!

Re: Quilter amps
I bought a Microblock 45 out of curiosity. I use it at rehearsals and carry it along in my gig bag for a spare, and have used it for a couple of small gigs. For the price of a pedal, IMO it's a good investment.

Re: Quilter amps
I just got a Mini 101 for Christmas & I fully agree with you about the YouTube videos. Maybe it's just the style of music in a lot of the clips (generic blues & hard rock licks), but these amps are so much more than that. The clean sounds are incredible. I was able to get a Johnny Marr vibe out of it, now if only I could play like him! I'm planning on doing a comparison between the Quilter & my '71 Twin Reverb to see how the Surf sounds next to an actual Fender. It's nice to have such a great sounding amp that weighs so little but doesn't sacrifice any tone.mynameisjonas wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 3:38 amThread resurrection!

Re: Quilter amps
yes pretty loud
at rehearsale or live i put it at 20 w and it is enought to be more than my drummer who play loud !
with drri it was in the zone where the sound change and became agressive ,harsh ,with no body ,with the little box i have no trouble to be heard
after depend also of the cab and the speaker ,at rehearsale i am not bringing my cab (eminence eps 15 c in)and use a marshall 4x12 who have bad projection (i know cause when i try with my tube head i sound really less loud at the same amount of volume) the sound is really straight before moreover rather than my cab who fill the room entierely (i can play on the side of my cab and still hear well )
this little box is my always amp ,home pratice ,rehearsale ,live it sound always good ,sure if i have the possibility to bring my tube head without headache i love too ,but last time we play we have to walk a lot between parking and the place we play (moreover there is dangerous stares we play in a cave)and with the tube head will need 2 travel ,with the quilter in one travel all my materiel is in place

Re: Quilter amps
I have 101 Mini (the old non-reverb version) and Micropro Mach 2 head since 3 resp. 2 years. I prefer 101 mini.
101 Mini would be a perfect amp for me if it had the limiter and overall 100 Watts. Some people don't like the tone controls on 101 but I actually prefer them to the traditional TMB tone stack of Micropro Mach2.
The voice switch is great feature of these amps. I don't approach them from the modelling amp point of view but rather select the voice based on the guitar I am using. I.e I use it as a sort of extended EQ+gain structure knob.
The lead voice, Quilter's take on Marshall lead tone, works really well with my Jags and JMs.

Re: Quilter amps
For my indie band, I use the Surf setting on my 201. When it's my hardcore/punk band, I tend to reach for Full Q. I love how this thing sounds when you slam the input with an overdrive or boost pedal.Igorilla wrote: ↑Thu Apr 19, 2018 12:39 amI have 101 Mini (the old non-reverb version) and Micropro Mach 2 head since 3 resp. 2 years. Re: Quilter amps
I haven't tried the Quilter stuff, but we did a similar move for the bass and got an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 to remove all variables but the cab. It sounds absolutely amazing for the weight and for the price (especially used). DI out, too.mynameisjonas wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 3:38 am

Yes, the voice switch rules. We'll see what Mr. Quilter's ideas are for future small heads.loveinathens wrote: ↑Fri Apr 27, 2018 12:10 amFor my indie band, I use the Surf setting on my 201. My only small complaint regarding 101 Mini is that with the surf voice it is too bass heavy with closed back cabs.
Is this the case with 201 head too?

Re: Quilter amps
It seems to work with my closed back 2x12", but that might be a matter of preference. I mostly use Jazzmasters and Jaguars, which are bright enough. I also run a Klone through the front end to help contour the bass a little.Igorilla wrote: ↑Fri Apr 27, 2018 8:04 amYes, the voice switch rules. Re: Quilter amps
Yes, a pedal with bass control in front of the amp works for me too. An EQ Pedal in the FX loop is another efficient solution.

Tim Lerch makes everything sounding great
Here is he with an archtop guitar:

And here is a video by Jeff Senn with a 101 Mini. In the middle part of the vid are some non-blues-rock, non-hard-rock sounds.
