A-ha... Bayern (Bavaria) is a state in Germany. The transformers in the amp have a distinct "GDR" type of look to them. Bavaria was located in West Germany, technically, but it bordered the communist GDR and some villages were actually split between the two countries at the time.

The amp has a decidedly UN-western look to it in terms of the meticulousness of its construction... however the Philips caps are definitely a Western thing, but the transformers and the green look to be from the East.

Interesting thing... probably indeed of Bavarian or Eastern European origin.

So how do you think adding an extra volume control would work out? I mean so you can set preamp vol and power amp vol to get overdrive at lower volumes? Is that an easy thing to do? Can I use the two tremolo pots for that?

I wouldn't mod that amp for a master volume. if you need a master volume amp, sell that one and buy one.

It's rare and unique enough that i think it should be left original.

øøøøøøø is right-- adding a master volume to an old amp is generally frowned upon since it is usually a non-reversible modification. Most amp techs with scruples won't consider modding a cool, rare old amp unless the mod can be reversed.

If you really want to get that amp to overdrive at lower volumes I'd get an OD pedal or an attenuator.

The amp takes pedals very well.. It has a very clean and neutral sound that really does justice to the guitar you're using. It even made my old BOSS DS-1 sound good!

i dig the more spacious layout! from the looks of it,
i'm guessing the sound would be Fender/Hi-Fi
very cool!

shouldn't be much trouble getting the tremolo and reverb going.

rather than a master volume mod, try it with some less efficient alnico speakers. but don't melt them either... you're looking at 60-80 watts output!!

Youre right about the sound. And it can get pretty loud.. its a very neutral sounding amp. Wit eq you can go from very thin to super warm. This amp has some bass!

Seeing that head, I'd look into Dynacord amps, also German made I believe and to me they share a same kind of 'Look'.
