marshall tsl 602

Post by Gw10101 » Sun Sep 09, 2007 8:52 pm

Ok so in my not so elustrious correar as a guitarist i have had and used the hell out of, a gibson ga-30 class a with 1x10 and 1x12, a vox ac-30 cc, a fender bassman 10, and currently i am useing a fender supersonic into a matching blond 4x12 closed back cabinet.

so heres the rub, i am tired of pushing a half stack around with me everywhere i go.

what i was wondering is this, how do the marshal jcm 2000 combo's fare compaired to their head and cabinet bretherine? of the marshalls that i dig, this seems to be the one i can afford, and has the chanal switching i want.  i know the tsl 602 is a 2x12, open back 60 watt 3 chanel amp, ( wich wouldbe great for me actually, i dream of three different chanels!) but i do wonder how the quality holds up. i'm hoping electronically they are similar. i did check out the 1x12 dsl 601 wich seemed cool, but was only 40 watts and sounded brittle, wich might have had somethign to do with it being open back. im not sure.

someone else had suggested a peavy high gain, but i'm kind of afraid of peavys and crates. i'm sure they are quality amps, but i really only want to be a closetted metal guy, not just a metal guy :P

any how just thought i would tr to get some opinions on the topic.

the sounds that i use are tipically overdriven on the light end, and vibrant full high gainy on the other end.

thanks

greg

Well, I've been playing the hell out of a Marshall TSL60 half-stack for years now and I love it.  The DSL 601 you mentioned, if it was infact 40 watts is actually the 401, which is a totally different amp.  But, I think that a 602 would work great, and sometimes I wish I had got one of those and a 2x12" extension cab for bigger gigs.  IMO, the 60-watt dual EL34 (or in my case 6CA7) amp is a sure-bet.

Yes, they're the same amp.  You can actually see how one is the upside-down of the other if you see 'em side-by-side.

If you're sick of carrying around the half-stack, why not get a 2x12 for your head? That's the great thing about heads.

They also make a supersonic in a 2x12 combo format, too....
