Re: Thoughts on the Fender Excelsior?
I played this thing and it is amazing. Perfect in my opinion people at GC were hating on it due to the simplicity but that's what I felt made it great.

Re: Thoughts on the Fender Excelsior?
I had a go on one of these a few weeks ago in one of the music stores in Dublin - I was pleasantly surprised by it to be honest. Reasonably good tone and a nice bit of grit when cranked up. It's retailing here for less than the Fender Pro Juniors, which are an amp that I have never got along with - I've had two pass through my hands and both were different, but both were noisy (background noise, hum). The excelsior sounds superior to my ear and at a cheaper price than the Pro. I briefly considered buying one (they're cheap enough over here to be considered an GAS/impulse purchase) but I'm happy enough with my DRRI for practice. If I didn't have that I'd have picked one up no problem.

It comes across as an amp that would fit my jazzmaster perfectly, in that it's not got that obvious fender (start/tele) tone.
If it had a vibrato/trem to match the old vibrochamp I'd buy two.

Yeah I read that people are modding the tone switch for a rotary knob too.kalipigeon wrote:Aren't its two controls volume and tremolo?
The 'vibrato' doesn't sound as good as the old vibrochamp though, I'm waiting for a silverface VC to be delivered. Can't wait!
Would probably have bought this otherwise.

You should be it's great. I'm still confused as to how anyone could have any complaints about anything about this. It's a practice amp that is a 15" speaker. It's so good. It's great.

I have been looking at these since they first announced them. Seems like a great simple amp.

Re: Thoughts on the Fender Excelsior?
that makes you EQ with your pedals more to get the sound your really looking for rather then adjusting the amps *treble bass mid* then pedals around it this amp does have its limits in that but after plaything with this amp for a while then going back to your 3 banded EQ'ed amp will give you a better understanding of just what the 3 band eq does with your pedals to shape it more preciselyRoverson wrote: Seems like a great simple amp.
Excelsior amp love it a shit load more versatile then given credit for fender strat, squier standard tele don't hate, it has the tone I've been chasing since I modded it with my secret I won't reveal unless you REALLY wanna know and a blacktop Jazzmaster

Mine arrived on Friday.
I must say what a great amp it is, especially for the price. The only thing I did was take off the badge on the front, I thought it detracted from the look and was cheesy.

You'd be better off buying another amp at that point.
