UL Fender Silverface Twin into a Head pg. 3

Post by HNB » Tue Mar 13, 2012 7:39 pm

Got this amp from Joeleo. I only have had about 30min to play with it, and it seems to be exactly what I wanted. I was hoping for an amp that didn't suffer a lot from sound change using different volume. With kids sometimes I have to turn it down and I hate when my other amps just sound weak when quieter vs just not as loud. I need to get the reverb working, but the vibrato sounds EXCELLENT. More subtle than my Univox U45. It has a great clean tone. Very wonderful. Warm and clear. I can't wait to hear it when I fix the tank. Pics below.

Packing was excellent. Probably the most packing peanuts I have seen in one box in my whole life.

After I got the box with the amp out of the box of peanut doom, I went to cleaning it.

Whoa!! Cool, dood! That doesn't fall into the "under $200" range we discussed... ;D
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Glad it made it safely. I hope you love it and get all kinds of great use out of it. She'll be missed but it was time.

Aw man. One of my good friends picked up an SF Twin a few months ago and has been raving about it nonstop. Have fun with this!

It sounds as good as I hoped it would be (which was a tall order). I am very happy with it. I don't know why these get a bad rap. I think it sounds awesome. I get it won't likely naturally distort because it is so loud, but I am a pedal user for that anyways. I like being loud and clean. This amp seems to kill at that.

For likely being older than I am, I totally agree. It looks like it is pretty much all stock. I know the switch pedal is a reissue, but it still has the red plug in the back and all Fender branded tubes. (Which made me excited to install.)

It did not, but Joeleo's $500 plus shipping price was a killer deal for a Silverface Twin. Could not resist and tax return helped me out.

I took a picture of it. Is blue the normal color of the Silver Face Twins? I like it. :) Matches the blue logo and grill cloth.

I will be taking GREAT care of this one. It will likely (VERY LIKELY) be my main amp.

I can't wait to play with it when I get home. I haven't been able to try pedals with it yet. :)

I don't think blue is the normal color. When I first got this one the bulb was burnt out and it didn't have a jewel. I have a ton of jewels so I would always swap them out every few weeks. My favorites with that amp were blue and amber, but when I was feeling particularly sassy purple and pink looked great too. :)

I think blue and red were both standard- I prefer the latter, but they both look nice.

I like the blue. :) I opened up the tank. It has a disconnected wire. I will bring it to work to see if my electronics friend can repair it. In the mean time I spent the $18 to have a replacement tank sent. :) Cheap fix if I can't get the one to work.

Thanks! I thought it was a steal. Especially playing through it. I played it again today. Soooo nice. :)

Yeah Joeleo said he installed it because the original wasn't there. I like the blue. Red light screams Red Alert to me. Blue is more calming. :) LOL

My Univox has a red jewel. I think they are both nice colors. :) The blue goes well with the blue font on the amp.

I have a UL ProReverb that someone modded w/ a 15" speaker. People often malign the ultralinears, but the pro sounds quite nice. Congrats on your find.
