I almost always get someone to help me carry mine- it weighs practically nothing when the weight is distributed properly, and part of what makes carrying it yourself so hard is the awkward shape.
I wish it has two side handles so you could grab it that way also. I am always nervous about carrying it by the one handle.
Mine took a really nasty spill over the summer- I was holding it in my arms, like you would a head, which would've been fine, good weight distribution and all that jazz, but I tripped on a rock and had to let go of it in order to not get a face full of amp and pavement- so I'm planning on making a new cab for it which will definitely have a set of (hopefully ampeg style) recessed knobs on the sides in addition to the one on top.

If you plan on taking it anywhere, a roadcase might be a good idea, and they have recessed side handles usually- in fact, maybe I'll just plan on doing that...

Yikes! That sucks. I would be so mad. If I get to taking it places, I will pick up a road case. I would likely get something like this.

It royally sucked- the poor thing already had issues. However, it exposed that the cab had seen water damage and was rotting a little, so it would've needed a replacement eventually anyway.

That case is exactly what I was talking about.

The MDF baffle has a small crack in it and the back cover was missing and the whole amp is hard to move.... yadda yadda yadda but I love how it sounds. I decided to get a head cabinet to put it in. I will keep the stock one in my guitar room, but I think as a head it will be easier to move around and carry. It will let me plug into different speaker combos also. Since I have a 212 Supersonic cabinet, I had it made with the same colors. Peter Mather (mathercab.com) did a great job! It even has room to install the reverb tank in the head unit. Here is how it looks.

Going to check out the capacitors when I do the transfer. If they need updating, how crazy would I need to be to do the work myself. I have modded effect pedals and build effect pedal kits so I am pretty ok with a soldering iron. I already know about discharging the capacitors before poking around in it. I also know to use a solder pump to get the old solder out of the eyelets to remove the stock ones before installing the new ones making sure the polarities match.

Thoughts? I just don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars to have someone else do it.

Looking pretty sweet. Part of me is saying "keep it as a combo" but honestly, i dont think any human's back can take it

Do it yourself, It will turn out much more intimate. And if you ever need to sell you have the original cab! and the external enclosure.
What you should ask yourself is whether you want to just have the head or the combo.
I keep my twin as it is, beat to shit. It never lets me down,.
I just got a different head with a lower headroom and weighs less, there is usually a completely unused channel and extra mass/dimensions you carry around for no reason with that fender reverb style amplifier

A couple hundred is an entire head that could be what you want and need to take around.

What i''ve done from my own experience.

Been a long time! I just had Solderhaus check out my Twin to make sure all is good before the swap. Got it back today and got to work moving things. I installed the reverb tank first since I figured it would be easier to screw down without the amp in there. Then I moved the amp into the head. It installed perfectly easy. I put in the power cable holder and reverb/vibrato wire holder in the sides and then put the back on. Last I screwed on a Fender plate on the front to match my cabinet. I am super happy with how it turned out. It is still heavy, but it is easier to carry it in a smaller shape than the huge cabinet. (Which now that it is empty is STILL freaking heavy.) Here are pictures of the insides and the rest.

How hot do the tubes get? Is the reverb tank bag far enough away from the tubes? Would hate for it to melt or catch fire....

how much $ and time did you put into it?
Ive been roaring with my 75 Twin and it seems like the best idea on earth to mod it for Top + Box..
And it looks like new and that should last another 50 years.

Wow! Absolutely awesome!
I always wondered why there weren't more people doing this. Or why they wouldn't finally reissue the showman or offer more heads in general?!
I only saw one "Twin in a head" locally a year ago for 600€. I always loved the sound but yeah, too heavy for me to carry around.

Also I do love your colour choice!
Didn't know the silverface plate would look that good with blonde and oxblood.
Most sexy amp colour combination ever! (I have the blonde Supersonic 60 with a set of matching cabs: Supersonic 4x12 and 2x12 and a Mojotone 1x15.)

I don't remember the Mather head cabinet being that expensive. Putting it into that head maybe took 30-60 minutes. It was pretty easy really.

The head is still pretty heavy but it is smaller so I can carry it with two arms. :) Mather matched the cloth and tolex to my cabinet using a photo. They were great to work with.

Tube Amp Doctor offers various Fender Head sizes (matching Deluxe Reverb, Twin, Princeton, Bassman, etc) for I think 309€ already with Tolex and everything you'd need, ready to swap. I'm pretty sure it could be had a bit cheaper somewhere else. But in Europe there aren't many shops who offer this as their standard range of products.
There are a few custom cab builders too but the ones I know are more specialised in Doom - so Sunn and Orange type cabs in various sizes.

I am thinking about doing the same thing. I was looking at Beaver Bottoms http://www.beaverbottoms.com/INDEX.HTM to make the cabs. I'd think splitting them up just makes sense for weight issues...

I’m thinking about getting a head cab for my ultralinear 1980 Pro Reverb. I looked at the Mojotone head cab offerings, I think their twin head cab will fit my particular Pro Reverb chassis. But do I want to spend $200 for it? Not sure yet.

As far as reverb pan mounting schemes go, I think the Bandmaster Reverb head has the reverb pan mounted to the inside of the solid baffle. The long axis of the pan is still horizontal, but the short axis of the pan is vertical (if that makes sense). I think I saw this when I was shopping around for amps, tell me if I am wrong. If not then I just saw one that was modded with the reverb pan in that orientation. This might keep the vinyl reverb pan bag farther away from the tubes?
