Yeah man, that's absurd, he should have one tube amp of each brand his clients use for each of them to test accordingly right? And on top of that different cabinets, of course. How else am I gonna know my guitar still has the tonz?

Shit, can't find any decent luthier service these days eh...

Who out there is using a Rusty Box/ss power amp combo? Likely going to piece one together when I can decide on a speaker/cab to share for bass and guitar.
F*ck it...

TS-10 -> PM-100 -> YS-15P

Image

All good at low volume so far...

(Still needing the Rusty Box or 50b of course.)

This is hot.

What kind of music are you playing through this beast? I had a TS-15 in college and loved it for spiky post-punk type stuff. Super brittle and paper sounding, but the distortion you'd get when you turned it up was f'n cool. It's making me wish I still had it!

Maybe more ridiculous then hot, but I need something other than that tiny 8''er to share for bass and guitar. Power amp is there for an eventual Rusty Box as I figure a 50b is not going to turn up any time soon.

Just noodling around at home after not playing at all for some time. Slo mo guitar soli type stuff mostly. Six Organs type stuff (in my head) but with a bit of fuzz here and there, 3rd tier Melvins riffs, etc and etc...

i run the poweramp on FULL and control things with the ivp. for quiet time the reverb gets dialed back as it's a preamp as well.

I have a fair collection of amps, my favorite solid states at the the moment are these.

1977 Marshall JMP-2201 Lead 30 (Autographed by Jim Marshall in 2004)
Image
This amp used to belong to the guitarist from UK punk band "Slaughter & the Dogs" I've owned this amp since 1988 and it sees regular usage, it's super basic but takes pedals

1977 Marshall JMP 2199 Master Lead Combo

I got this amp about 6 months after the JMP-2201 and it still sees regular use live, I can get a beautiful blues tone from ths and as with the 2201 its fantastic with pedals.

1976 Marshall 2099 Bass

Over the years I've used this for both bass and guitar, now it tends to get used purely for guitar. This is my solid state blues head for gig where the master lead combo isn't gonna cut it power wise. Usually coupled with a Marshall 1965b Straight Front 4x10 Cab.

The next 2 are backups for the Marshall usually. A VOX escort 30 and it's larger sister The Escort 50. Great little amps in their own right and usually the ones I lend to students if they need a loaner for a while.

I've been on a solid state kick lately. Having always loved the sound of a JC120, but never owning one, I started looking into getting a smaller amp for rehearsing & gigging (Twin Reverbs & Verbmasters are too heavy). The new JC line seems cool, but I wasn't sure if that's what I wanted. For Christmas, I got a Quilter Mini 101 and I'm floored by the sound. To my ears, it walks the line between tube & solid state. Not really into the cork sniffer mindset that an amp has to have tubes to sound good. Glad to see there are other here who feel the same way.

Oh god, I'm just imagining what happens if the input cord gets jostled and rustles with a bit of static by accident...pop goes the eardrum

I have no preference in amps...however the ones I tend to search out are tube amps. Why, i dunna.

That said I have owned many solid states all from solid state masters...Peavy! Peavy have made my favourite Solid State amps that are not one trick ponies.

The Century series from the '70s made popular by Rage Against the Machines bassist I like. Killer distortion and can be found for dirt DIRTY cheap.
The 400 series are solid

Peavy Firebass 700 is my choice for top solid states. Ease of use, loud, has FIRE in the title. Hits all my checkmarks.

My main amp for awhile has been a Fender Princeton Chorus (non DSP), I like it a lot! Sounds great, I replaced the reverb tank because the original died but I get most of my 'verb from an RV-6. My drummer has an old Randall 2x12 120 watt chorus amp that I use for band practice because it hangs better than the Fender but doesn't sound as good.
