Tear in speaker cone on Twin Reverb...Can it be repaired?

Post by RumorsOFsurF » Sat Jul 14, 2007 7:24 pm

I recently took my SF Twin Reverb apart, and noticed there is a small (approx .75") tear in one of the speaker cones.  They are the original Oxfords.  Will the tear get bigger?  I would rather not replace it, as I'd like to keep the speakers stock.

Also, the amp sounds a little farty at higher volumes.  Could this be the reason?  It seems likely...

Thanks, David!

I've also been looking around.  I'm thinking about buying some new Jensen C12N's and just storing the Oxfords, but I'm not sure.  I think it's cool to use the original stuff...

It's defenitely possible to repair a tear.  It could throw off the balance of the cone though so using as little material as possible is the way to go.  The only time I ever repaired a tear it made the speaker finish with a sorta woomph sound that was a bit off from the other.  It wasn't major but was most noticable when muting.
