Re: My new old Deville (now with 12AY7)

Right now I am running a AY7 in V2 I am pleased with it sounds more vintage and is way more controlable. The AY7 was the preamp tube for the 59 bassman. I ran it in V1 for awhile but it completly took the teeth out of the amp. My plan is this AX7 in V1 AY7 in V2 AT7 in V3 (typical blackface phase inverter) and a duo of the red Fender GT 6L6 in the power section to keep the headroom at volume.

i grabbed a pair of 12AT7's from my work cuz thats all we had, and im gonna try those in v2 and v3. do you think those will have an effect as well? i sure hope so. i like the way the amp sounds now but if it could give a more vintage feel id be happy.

yeah, see the chart I posted "12AT7 = 60" the AT7 is 60% of the output of an AX7 the AT7 isusualy used as a driver for reverb or a phase inverter. I am currious to hear what that would sound like myself. The less preamp gain the less the power tubes distort when the volume is up. Play around with it and let us know what you find out.

David, does this amp have fixed bias like a twin?

Cause when ever i need to change tubes (haven't owned it long enough to replace them yet) i just need the same groove tubes and i dont need to bias it.Pretty cool i reckon!

It's not really fixed bias, yyou can still adjust it. They just color code the tubes of the same spec so you don't have to.

Sometimes i think i'm such a fucking noob with amps, yet i know so much about geektars and effects......the interest just hasnt been there in the past  i spose.

Anyways, hows it doing now? you like the cleaner, less breakup, more  headroom tube/s?

I like these amps and if they made a 100w one i woulda got it in place of a TR cause its cheaper.

What watts are each speaker? my twin has 2x 100 watt (200watts total)  jensens. I always thought they were 100watts total but since i been actually learning about my amps specifics (i checked the jensen site for C12K's)i noticed its 200watts total and that got me thinking about how much it would contribute to it staying so clean so loud....you know,85watts going into 200 watts of speakers?!?!?!?

I would think it would make a huge contribution considering it has 12AX7's(not the cleanest tubes) ,y'all any idea?

Note:I think i just broke my own record for asking questions on a forum,i never ask questions! :D

Well, that was kind of my dilema, I wanted a twin reverb but couldn't afford one. I am not sure of the wattage of the speakers, I looked but they don't say. My best friend has one of the blonde non hot rod devilles. It was plenty loud and clean so I knew this amp was capable of sounding the same. With the proper power tubes I can get this baby up to 70 watts. I think eventually I will get a set of weber speakers. So far I like it alot, I mainly just use the clean and my big muffs and overdrives. The amont of breakup usually has to do with a few factors, tube voltage, speaker wattage, power tube output. The Twin has all of the factors to stay loud and clean as do most of the black/silverface era amps. The hotrod is basicaly the same Bassman copy as every other fender amps with a few mods for more gain.

I wouldn't steer you wrong  ;) I was amazed how mutch the voice of the amp changes just by changing one little tube.

haha i dunno man. everytime i use a smiley im super entertained by the mini stories i can tell just with the smileys. i love the puking one its so funny.

heres the timeline:

im drooling at how cool it is, but then i puke, and im confused as to why i puked, then drool again, puke more, am indifferent, drool some more, expect to puke but only feel nauseous, drool again, realize hey im not gonna puke because im drooling and roll my eyes, drool more, am happy that i no longer have to puke, get sick again and puke my life out.

the end.
