gt6 and an epi junior for home use or fender champion

Post by fourmations » Thu May 03, 2007 4:08 pm

hi all

i have a boss gt6 and need to buy an amp just for home use

would the epi junior 5w fit the bill?
(it has no settings just volume, gt6 would do all the tones)

i hear valve amps are way louder than solids anyway

UPDATE: is the fender champion a competitor to the epi
the only noticable difference is that the fender has a 6" speaker
and the epi has an 8" speaker

the valves are probably different - but i havent a clue about valves!

yeah, for home use I think you'd be pretty happy with 5W. :)

I'd go with the Fender, it has a speaker jack so that you can use it with a different speaker cab if you want. As far as tubes go, they have almost the same preamp tube, but the power tube in the fender is a 6V6 and the Epi uses the EL84, a good description of the difference can be found here.
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

hi all

i have done some reading on this and posted it to another local forum,
and have read that a keyboard amp is the way to go!!

apparently the gt6 needs a full range speaker to get the
better sounds out of it as the preamps dont get on with guitar amps
and this is why its sound much better through headphone or straight into a PA

also mentioned was the fact that a 5w tube amp is incredibly loud
and does not come into its own until cranked up.

heres a quote....
"It really does surprise people who have never used small valve amps before, just how loud they can get. Like I said above, youre talking 50% as loud as a 50 watt head. That's half as loud as the typical amp lots of guys gig with, and most of those guys don't even have their amps turned all the way up. You're talking LOUD"
thats toddler waking stuff! not good!

another interesting quote...
You could use the GT6 with amp models etc in front of the EVJ and leave the vol on the Epi quiet low, but I think that gets back to your original question - I don't really see the point in doing this. You may as well run the GT6 into any amp.

apparently even decent PC speakers will sound better with a GT-6
than it would through a guitar amp!

I know that y'all are stomp box and tube amp fans
but I already have a gt-6 and only play at home,
so it may be the way to go, without shelling out more cash aswell, which helps!
