I played through a 212 VC30 at a gig in Dublin once, and it sounded great. I normally don't like playing gigs without my Fender, but the Laney sounded really nice.

I've been considering one because they're a lot cheaper than most other Valve amps of their kind in the UK.

yeah, they are - I think construction-wise they're a lot more solid than my Blues Deluxe, too.

I've seen them dubbed as a 'poor man's Marshall' but the VC-30 series are known as a 'poor man's AC-30' which can't be bad.

I never really see Laney amps around the local shops down here. I wouldn't mind trying one.
Is it a marshall sound? I've heard one before--a bad playing guitarist, but the tone did sound good.

How is the overall build quality? Would you say it is better than Fender? Is it on par with your Peavey?
Just curious.

the VC30 sounds like a Fender amp with no headroom to me

I only used the clean channel, and to me it sounded pretty similar to the blues deluxe that i normally use - in that I didn't have any problems with getting my regular sound. In fact, I don't think I even touched the tone controls at all.

My Blues Deluxe doesn't have a whole lot of headroom either, so I was fine with that.
