NAD - Silvertone 1474! (VERY PIC HEAVY 56K BEWARE!)

Got this for ten bucks!

But there is a catch...
It has been HEAVILY modified into a head. New cabinet, reverb tank gone, some dude spray-painted the front control plate black and put some "nice" silver strips. I think I also found a jack for a speaker.
I plan to have a local tech see if anything is wrong with the amp or tubes etc. and I would like to put it back in the traditional 2x12 combo.

Some close-ups (this is just as i got it, minus me taking out screws and knobs)

I thought this was cool, could I just plug in a fender style Accutronics reverb tank?

By the looks of it, this is the speaker jack.
Seems like the speaker wires are going to the same spot in this picture of an original

I have a few more questions since i know very very little about tubes.
Most of them have those brown marks that you see in the pictures, are they bad? and the writing on the chassis calls for 6L6G and the tubes in there are 6L6GC, is there a difference?

Good score!  :)  I really like Silvertones myself..

As for the reverb, the original reverb tank in these amps were crap, so it's not really a big loss if it's not there. I don,t know if you can directly plug in a Gibbs-Hammond tank though (like they used in old Fender amps), as the input and output impedence might be different from what your amp was designed for... But if it were mine, i'd give it a try for sure!

those brown marks look like thee from somebody lighting ciggarettes off the tubes.

If you put it in a cabinet with speakers it will be harder to carry, but it is annoying they made that head too small to fit a reverb tank. The circuit to drive a reverb tank should already be there, you just need to plug one in. Also, you will need an extra transformer if you are going to use it in Europe, it looks like it has the original 110V USA tranformer.

I have two silvertone amps. The are great. :) Both have been rehoused and that is for the better. The original pressboard cabs were not the strongest stuff. :)

"56k Beware" was a hell of a throwback until I saw how old the topic was.

Yeah, that's not a phrase I have heard in a long time.

Great score for $10
