Bandmaster

Post by mewithoutus » Thu Jan 25, 2007 3:40 pm

man ive posted alot today but im bored at home and this forum keeps me entertained!!!

anyway, ive got a marshall 1965b 4x10 cab that doesnt get used too much. its a shame because it sounds amazing.

now, i need (want) a vintage type head for this cab so i can run it in stereo with my other amp. i am thinking maybe a fender head? maybe a bandmaster? ive never played a bandmaster but i hear nothing but good things.

can anyone recommend me a sweet head for this cab? if you wanna know what type of music i play check out the link in my sig, or go to myspace.com/tdh.

the cab handles 14 watts. and its 8ohms. thanks.

Any of the blackface Fender heads would be happy with 8 ohms (and I assume 140W) .. you see the Bandmasters and Bassmans fairly commonly on ebay and they're still fairly reasonable. The blackface sound would complement your Peavey (which sounds tweed-like I guess) pretty well .. or you could go another way and get a Marshall head, or a Vox-type head, maybe a Hayseed?

You mean something like this?
I use this in a stereo mode with a Twin. I love the sound.
Lets see if did this right.

I like blackface Bandmasters a lot. The one I have is a '64. I just sold a really, really clean '65 Bassman about 8 months ago. I like the Bandmaster more. Bassmans sound great, but it was  a little dull compared to the Bandmaster. It did have a little more low end, not a ton, but a noticable amount. The Bandmaster seems to have a more complex tone on the higher end of the frequency range. Both are great amps though. If I didn't have the Bandmaster to compare it to, I would have kept the Bassman for sure. It was kind of superfluous to have both. I sold the Bassman and bought a Vox.

Hey, I've got one of those Marshall 4x10s too! Mine has the lighter color grille cloth but otherwise it's the same deal. I really don't have much occasion to turn it up, being a home-based hack, but I have a SF Pro Reverb that a previous owner chopped and converted to a head. So I have a setup that looks almost exactly like the Bandmaster / Marshall photo.

MJET, I guess great minds thinks alike.
I've had this setup for about 10yrs now ,the sound is close enough to my super reverb . In Stereo  i use a Twin ,the Super And the Bandmaster are very close in sound and i needed more definition to the sound. The Bandmaster took care of the lows and mids, the twin is for the icepick in the ear sounds.

Bandmasters are great, if you can find one for a good price ittd definitley  be a good choice, I have a blackface one into a 2x12" marshall cab and it sounds really great (amps been having problems lately though :( )...

a bassman may be easier to find I would say bassman or bandmaster

It's also got a 4x10 which hasn't sold yet. I might pick it up...

You can buy Silverface Bandmasters pretty cheaply, it doesn't take much to convert them to Blackface specs. I did this and really like it better than my BF super reverb.
