Canadian 70's Pron - Hand Job - Sexy -
Found this hand wired Traynor Amp locally, pots are a little scratchy and 1 of the tubes was dead. Replaced the tube and amp is rocking now. Will clean the pots later tonight when I get inside this medium sized Canadian made tone beast.

Re: Say hello to my medium friend...
Here are some pics of the guts. I bought this with the sole intention of flipping it but now that I've played it and gotten inside it, Im having second thoughts about selling it.
The amp is very quiet, I don't really hear any hum out of it. It's built like a tank and easy to get at.
It's in really good shape so I think I might recap it and maybe keep it. (Tho`its listed on Kijiji)
Guts
More guts
Leak alert
Aerial of the guts
One Beefy Tranny
Easy Access just remove four screws and lift top.
Schematic inside the Amp

Thx for the info
I was planning on selling it but I think I might as well keep it. It sounds really, really nice!
The only thing I noticed is that some of the caps have a plus sign in the middle so I"m not really sure what's + or - :-\
I love the sound coming out of that huge 15" speaker.

What about the electrolytic caps Brad, should they also be replaced?øøøøøøø wrote:
That said, yours still has the original filter caps. I'd consider replacing those for best performance and preventive maintenance.

my friend played his buddy's brother's traynor head - it was from the same period - and he was blowing loads about it afterwards, saying how that was the perfect amp for him, etc, etc.
of course, he was using it after running through his pedalboard, but still. i hear those old traynor's a great. my dad used to play them for jams and shows with his friends back in the early 80s n stuff..
and they look cool, but so does anything from canada

If there's no hum why are you going to recap it?tribi9 wrote:

Probably because a filter cap, if it goes short circuit, can fry a power transformer or output transformer and spray black goo all over the amp.
The caps in that amp are well over 20 years old... probably closer to 30. The rated life expectancy of a filter cap is 15 years. So they are on borrowed time.
I think of it sort of like changing the oil and filter in your car-- you don't wait for your engine to overheat and seize up before you do it. You do it regularly BEFORE that happens.

Not trying to draw attention to myself, but thought I'd post a pic of my old YBA1 MkII and matching 4x12 (as well as one of my old Telecasters).
Used to play that little setup in my old band which played mainly violent, dis-jointed, frantic, chaotic noise/math-rock . The amp was awesome, really nice warm tones and wicked natural overdrive (I ALWAYS played with it at 75%-max for shows)

That's a sweet channel jumped head you got there. That cab's gotta weight a freaking tonne tho',Dave wrote: Not trying to draw attention to myself, but thought I'd post a pic of my old YBA1 MkII and matching 4x12 (as well as one of my old Telecasters).

I love those old Traynor heads but I love combos even more. I'd like to get a YGM-3 (The 69-74 model). I'm curios to see how they sound.

I actually used to have another YBA-2B a while ago, I didn't really play it much and just ended up selling it. Same as the one I got now. I think after seeing it what's inside and actually playing it I will keep it for a while.
