New Tube Amp Repair shop - Marshall head and Silver Fender Vibrolux pics

Post by painted wood » Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:32 am

I was driving yesterday and noticed a new tube amp repair shop opened up a few blocks from my house, and there was a Marshall head in the storefront that caught my eye.  I rode my bike up to it this morning and took some pics of a couple cool amps in the storefront.  I'll stop back by later today and find out the details of the vibrolux and how much he wants for it.  I think I like it.

I think it's a '68.  The '07 price guide has these at $1,200-$1,500.  I hope he will take less...

That vibrolux is not a 1968.  It's made after 1970 as evidenced by the speaker grille frame that's separate from the baffle.  '68 and '69 amps had the integrated baffle/grille like the BF amps and a drip edge around the grille.

I'd say that one is between '70 and '74.

Cool-looking Marshall, I would've guessed JMP but they're both fine amps.

The SFVR looks pretty much like mine which is a '71. Also good amps, I'm not the only guy here who uses one.

But what I'm really interested in is what's sitting behind the SFVR .. is it a brownface Concert?  :?

;D  It's just a baffle board and grill cloth... nothing else cool.  :D  a BF concert would have been sweet.

They are closed today but I'll stop by next week.

Me too...here's a '72 JMP from another site for comparison.

Any chance you can get pics of the other stuff in the window?  I'm particularly interested in seeing the angled cab that looks like a Watkins Dominator that directly to the left of the Marshall 4x12 under the JMP head.

Cool...  thanks for the pics! Looks like a custom made dominator type cab.  You should find out more about that for me once you go in while it's open.  :)
