speaker cables........
hey guys,
as you all know, I'm gonna get a 2x10 combo cab for my Tremolux to drop into.
now, I'm scoring two 10" speakers from a friend for free.
the problem I have now is hooking up the amp to the speakers....especialy as there's two speakers....
is there a place where I can buy the cable that will go out of the back of the amp and onto the two speakers?
kinda like the one in the pic, but with 4 ends on one side (speaker side)

Re: speaker cables........
You'll need to wire the speakers together and tie them to the output jack on the cabinet. Unless it's an open back where you could just wire the speakers to a male plug. Either way you're probably going to need to do a little soldering to accomplish this. I'm guessing the tremoluxe has a 4ohm output but in any case something that gets your speakers to the proper load is what you're looking for. Whats the impedance of the speakers?

Re: speaker cables........
hmmm...dunno yet...they are 10" Celestions...they came off a Marshall JTM60 3x10..I'll pick them up hopefuly this weekend or next.....
hmm...if soldering is involved, I'll have to take them to a tech...I'm useless with this stuff....
so weird that ready made cables don't exist...

Re: speaker cables........
The problem is that there are a number of ways to wire two speakers (or four speakers) together to achieve the proper impedance match for your amp. Not to mention there are some differences in sound between series or paralell wiring (or even series/paralell in a 412) that making a kit mostl likely isn't practical. Plus, in the case of a piece of gear you plan to cart around soldered connections are preferable (although some amps use the little clippies that fit around the tab on the speaker terminals.) What type of cab is it... open or closed? Does it currently have a famle jack anywhere on it?

Re: speaker cables........
You'll want it soldered .. if the leads come off accidentally you're in trouble, because a tube amp needs a load to drive otherwise it'll fry itself.
You'll also want the amp to see 4 ohms, which is usually achieved in Fenders by wiring two 8 ohm speakers in parallel. I'm not familiar with Marshall amps, but from what I gather from a quick web search they can be 8 ohm or other impedances. So I'd check what it says on the speakers.
Anyway, the end result should look something like the Bandmaster below with both the live terminals of the speakers wired together to the positive terminal of the input jack. If you're not confident I'd definitely say to get a pro to do it.
BTW I quite like the sound of those Marshall Celestions for jangly indie-type stuff, although everyone treats them as rawk speakers.

Acutally, the Celestions are most likely 16ohm and you'll have to wire them in series to get to a 4ohm load. I would think anyway.

Re: speaker cables........
Doesn't wiring in series add resistances? Or is it different for impedance?

Re: speaker cables........
Two 16ohms in series is 32 ohms right? In parallel it's 8 ohms, or am I crazy?

Re: speaker cables........
Drats... I meant paralell. I always get them backwards. :-[ And that's still only 8ohms.
Here's some links to wiring diagrams that might be useful.

Re: speaker cables........
zhivago , when I had my 2 x 10 box made up (using 2 blue pup speakers , the 10" version of the 12" blue dogs, each 8 ohm) it was done in such a way that by the flick of a switch (or 2) I could get the following:
16 ohms - 2 speakers in series
8 ohms - only uses one of the 10" speakers
4 ohms - 2 speakers in parallel
having the option has been very useful lately

relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

this sounds really cool to have......I'll ask the tech guy about it.
are there 10" versions of celestion blues? I didn't know....what would a Fender amp with two of them sound like?
maybe I could get some in the future, once my job is more stable (I'm getting there lately...got two clients now)

Re: speaker cables........
Hey Let me know the amp impedance, the speaker impedances, jack style and length it needs to be and I'll calculate it and send you a cable that'll do the trick.
PM me your address.

cool!
I'll PM you when the cab is here, so I'll know the length it needs to be
thanks!!!
