Tweed Amp Kits.....

Post by zhivago » Wed Dec 13, 2006 7:33 am

...out of curiosity, how many of you have put together tweed amp kits by the likes of Weber etc?

post pics etc if you can

I'd love a tweed bandmaster 3x10 one day :)

When I was heavily researching kits for my 18 watt project I found a lot of people unhappy with the quality of parts in the Weber kits.  They also lack any form of documentation (and as such are not for the novice builder).  I'd love to build a champ mini-head kit though...

Yes.  The first two I think of are Mission and Ceriatone when it comes to tweed kits.  I think Mission only makes a tweed deluxe kit but from all accounts it's top notch.  Ceriatone has a bunch of tweed options and the prices are really reasonable but I'm not sure if they have a build guide or not.  I know there are a few others out there but it's been months since I was looking at all this stuff.

Keep in mind you're going to pay shipping from Asia which is typically around $100 give or take.  Still a great deal IMO though...

It appears that with Ceriatone you need to supply your own cabinet and speaker(s)?  That will add a little to the overall cost.

Bruce and Mission Amps is our local amp tech here in Denver - Cool guy,  always willing to help out.  I haven't assembled a kit (I'd like to someday) but I have played a few of his creations - very nice.
last summer Mission Amps had a party/jam session for the release of their new complete pre-assembled amp line,  and my band got to play.  We play instro surf,  and usually have to bring big amps, but we used the new Mission amps.  I plugged into this little Deluxe sized amp, 25 watts i think,  and we played.  Afterwards,  everyone came up and said how good they sounded with the reverb tank,  and how loud it was.  It was pretty loud! ;D

I missed this topic when I signed onto the forum in the introduction section. I posted some pic's of a 5E3 Weber kit that I built recently. It is a great little amp and I am very happy with Weber's quality and service. Here's a link to my other post. index.php?topic=1549.0

I would love a clark tweed amp.  I am not good with a soldering iron.  Otherwise I would build myself.
I plan on getting a clark someday.
