Tiny Amp Town

Post by Maggieo » Fri Jul 18, 2008 4:19 pm

It's good to have a wee amp or two!

The Vibro Champ sounds wonderful with its new Weber Sig Series speaker.  And the Brian May is, well, absolutely insane, like an AMG Merc with a 6.3 V8.  Which was nice.

Me, too!  :D

I bet it'll sound even better once it's broken in.

The Keely Java Boost + Vibro Champ= TEH ROCK, BTW.

Vibro-champs rule, basically.  There aren't too many bad sounds built into that amp.

I can't think of a better sounding amp.  Not at least one I've played.

Though an old Reverberocket is sure sweet.

So, here's a question- what's a better amp to get: 1960's Reverberocket or 1960's Princeton Reverb?  Or something else?

I'm just thinking crazy thoughts out loud.  I'm pretty damn happy with my new Vibro-friend.

Honestly, my guitars have never sounded better.  I'm in  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

That's a super pair of amps!
Those Brian May amps tickled my fancy at one point, and I kind of wish I had bought one during their brief moment of closeout pricing.
I'd guess that and the vibro-champ sound notably distinct.  Play them simultaneously via an a/b/y box and you're probably set for all but the loudest situations.

To the Reverberocket vs. Princeton Reverb question: I vote Ampeg Reverberocket - better value and a different amp from what's already on the page.

Funny you should say that Maggie; popped this in yesterday:

An Alnico Sig 8 - did you go for the Sig, or the Sig S? I got the straight, rather than ribbed, cone; so far, seems like I'm the only champ owner in the world not to have got the Sig S. It does, however, sound amazing.

It's the Sig S, as recommended by Ted Weber and sold to me by øøøøøøø.

Ted sez:
I would use an AlNiCo Signature 8S, 4 ohms.

Darn - I mailed Ted too, but he just sort of vaguely recommended both. ALthough it's lovely, and I'll stop whingeing now.

I reckon any of Ted's recommended speakers would sound fab in a Champ.  :)

You know what?  I've got a Sig 8 in mine, too.  This one:
