Any good affordable 2x12 options?
Looking for 2x12 that is affordable, looks good and rating needs to be above 120 watts.

Re: Any good affordable 2x12 options?
Kind of too broad of a question. Used and local is the best answer.
Power rating is a function of the speakers, and really if you need that kind of headroom going too cheap might not be the move. It takes a certain level of stoutness to deal with serious volume.
If I felt like moving a 2x12 these days I’d probably get one of those Mojotone lite ones or maybe an an old THD.

Define 'affordable'?
Cheaper cabs do tend to look hideous too I'm afraid. Has always been that way.

Re: Any good affordable 2x12 options?
Let’s say price wise around or under 400. I clearly know I can go on craigslist, OfferUp, etc. To make it less broad, I don’t care so much closed or open, but looking for quality speakers. I said 120 watts because of the head I’m using.
In the used world what should I consider searching for and sleepers that people often pop up but not necessarily a name brand.
For quality new cabinet is there anything to consider?

But open or closed back? I'd look for something good on the used market.
Closed back: look for a used Orange PPC212 or a Marshall 1936 with V30s
Open back: look for a used mojotone, Avatar or Fender and get some better speakers. My favorite open back cabs that Fender ever made were from the early 80s. The 212-OB and the 112-OB. I'd swap the speakers in them with Celestions. They don't look like much but they sound great.

I've owned both Avatar and Mojotone stuff and can vouch for quality and value for money. The Mojotone lites are also less heavy which is really nice. I'd check on GC used or FB Marketplace for good deals on both, you can occasionally find a steal.
If you don't mind saving up a bit, I just picked up one of these and they are pretty interesting/cool:

The vented cab in the back definitely improves audibility. I've got one of their 1x10-style cabinets with a 12" Neo Creamback in it and it is uhh... very loud.

I ordered a lightweight Mojotone cabinet in lacquered charcoal tweed. Selected the speaker of choice (while trying quite a few). I am very happy.

I've owned a few Avatar cabs, they're solid as heck and price depends on speakers choice. Hard to do better for cheaper new.

I also have an Avatar 2-12 that I love. It was their signature line which sorta looks like an Orange style cab. Sounds huge! I think it cost me around $600 fully loaded, but they are probably more expensive now. They do come up pretty cheap used though.
If we’re talking really cheap, there are those Harley Benton 2-12s that used to be about $300. They came with 2 v30s. Idk about the quality of the wood or tonality of the cab., but for that price you are basically buying 2 v30s and getting a free cab…..

Affordable is pretty subjective. I'd try to scan local CL and FB marketplace ads for a Bogner 212.
I've been using a Bogner open back 212 for about 15 years, and it sounds incredible. Despite being non-closed-back, it's got plenty of thumb, and fills up a room really nicely.

+1 on the Harley Benton’s! I used to run a pair of them with a JCM2000 and they’re great and reliable cabs. They’re fully made out of birch ply. Only the tolex was fairly thin.CorporateDisguise wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 3:40 amIf we’re talking really cheap, there are those Harley Benton 2-12s that used to be about $300. They came with 2 v30s. Alternatively I’d look for an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12. Love the speakers in those; and built to last.

I totally forgot about the Egnater cabs! Good shout. I actually have a Tourmaster 4-12 in my garage that I have to used ina along time. Good sounding cab. Very similar to my old 1960a. I think I picked it up for like $300 when guitqr center was blowing them out.Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 10:46 am+1 on the Harley Benton’s! I had a really well made Mojotone Tweed Twin 2x12 extension cab that I really liked and only sold to go to two 1x12 cabs instead. Mojotone has occasional deals they send out if you’re on their mailer.
