NAD Orange OR15
I saw a smaller Rocker terror at guitar center, but it was on hold because it was used so I decided to look them up online to buy and saw the videos where they compare it to an Orange OR15. I have used a bigger Rocker head and didn't care for the second "volume only" channel and I liked the sound of the OR15 a little better in videos on YouTube. I ordered one and the next day was told the person already sold it and refunded me. I tried again and this time one came in. I might have lucked out in all that because this came in it's stock shipping box with it's tags and manuals and such. The previous owner said they tried out different tubes and liked what are in it best.
I tried it out with my 4x12 Orange cabinet with V30's in it. It was ok sounding but I was kind of disappointed. I figured I would try it out with my two snakeskin cabinets with the Vox blue alnico speakers and I like it so much more. The 4x12 was too bassy and middy. I was able to get a much brighter sound out of the Vox speakers. Considering the sound in my head with an Orange OR head is "The Pillows" sound, I was very happy. I went right to hooking up my Boss Blues Drive pedal and one of my Muff pedals and am pretty trilled with the sound. It is CRAZY how much different speaker sets sound with the same amp.
It has 15 and 7 watt modes with the standby switch as well as master volume, volume, treble, mid, and bass. The switches are on the front also which I wish more amps had. I hate reaching my hand behind an amp and fumbling around trying to find power and standby switches. Seems solidly built and has two 8ohm outs as well as a third 16ohm out on the back. It also has an effects loop. It is great for home and probably recording. If you mic'ed it, it is plenty loud enough to do whatever you want and they are pretty affordable really for a tube amp.
Here are pictures.

Congrats & enjoy, Chris! One of my oldest friends is super into Orange amps - they do sound awesome. Yeah, pairing up amps & speaker combinations can sometimes be tricky. Awesome that you found a pairing up that works for you!

Re: NAD Orange OR15
I had an OR15 for a while. It sounded really nice. My predicament was that I bought it to sub in for my old Overdrive 120 when I wanted less than full volume. The EQ structure between the two is WAY different though. I wasn’t able to use the same settings, and in some cases, even the same pedals as with the OD120, so I parted with it. It sucked because it really did sound great. I just couldn’t make either another pedalboard just for it alone or else readjust everything to sound right with it. They’re really cool little amps.

Well, yeah definitely. I wasn’t trying to say that they were similar circuits. Just pointing out that for my purposes I couldn’t sub one for the other.Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 6:01 amThe circuits are way different, to be fair.i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 8:25 pmThe EQ structure between the two is WAY different though.

Re: NAD Orange OR15
I tend to like them and each one has sounded a little different. I think I need to try my OD120 with these speakers and see what it does. To be fair, 15 watts is more than what I need for my office though. LOLSurfysonic wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 5:20 pmCongrats & enjoy, Chris! Makes sense. I am in the other boat where a 100 watt head is really too much for me in my office/living room.i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 8:25 pmI had an OR15 for a while. You should grab a used one up. Could always resell if you don't like it. They are pretty cheap for a tube amp.

You had me at "the Pillows". I love Oranges anyway but only have Orange cabs at the moment.

Their music is really great. I was lucky enough to see them live in Washington twice.

Re: NAD Orange OR15
Next time I see one in a shop I’ll give it a spin. I’ve watched a few demos and I really like the gainier sounds, but to be usable live for me it needs to also work a little cleaner.
The price is certainly right though, as is the power. What’s the fun in a tube amp if you can’t crank it up?

Re: NAD Orange OR15
It does clean really well. The master volume lets you have tube overdrive or louder and clean.

Re: NAD Orange OR15
I used to have one of these, traded it in against a Vibro Champ Reverb back in February because it was too loud for home use. On the very few times I got to turn the volume and gain above 9 o'clock on 7 watts it sounded excellent. If I wasn't in a tiny flat and could justify multiple amps I'd definitely consider one again.

Re: NAD Orange OR15
Sweet.. I've had a the Rocker 15 forever now.
I can totally see picking the OR15, having the two channels is sometimes just too much and I wonder if I'd have been better off with just the dirty channel. The dirty channel is by far the easier channel to get used to dialing in.
