I’ve had the amp back for a few weeks now.
There is a LOT of bass. I think most of this is the amp itself being voiced to sound full at moderate volumes.
Maybe something with more midrange oomph is the answer here?
Of course I blew my speaker budget on other stuff, so now I have more time to think about it.
Vox Cambridge Reverb - originalish 10" speaker or something modern?

Re: Vox Cambridge Reverb - originalish 10" speaker or something modern?
Finally heard back from my buddy, had a job out of town and then some family commitments.
He has the stock speaker back in after using an unbranded blue frame speaker. No sticker, probably Celestion though.
I didn’t notice a lot of bass, but I only played it for about 20-30 minutes. Also wasn’t playing anything of my own, so hard to really judge the sound.

Thanks! I feel like the Pyle is probably contributing to the bass issue. I mean it’s ok if I roll the bass control down significantly.spiffy chap wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 10:53 pmFinally heard back from my buddy, had a job out of town and then some family commitments.

It just sort of limits how loud the amp can be.

Maybe try some Blues type speaker. I put one in my 50s tweed after having a V30 and really like the change.
Pyle definitely not the move hahah

After a lengthy delay I ordered a Celestion Gold.
I think the softer treble response and slightly rolled off bass will be a good match for this amp, and I’m certain it will break up in a more pleasing way than the Pyle.
Will post some thoughts once it’s in.

Installed the Gold today and took the amp straight to practice.
It’s a LOT better than the Pyle. The bass is more controlled and there is a lot more midrange. I think the high end will continue to smooth out as it breaks in. The most obvious change with the new speaker was how my Rat clone sounded. It was a lot more chewy and fuzz-like. I suspect the amp will get on quite well with my treble booster now.
At 12W the amp still struggles to keep up with the 4 piece band. It’s not noticeably louder with the Gold, but it cuts way better. It will be totally fine for my 3 piece band and I think a great recording amp.
