Just picked up a late 70's chassis off of CL for an incredibly low price. Anyone else got experience with this model?
So Far I am liking it. Sounds good and has a great trem. Reverb is a bit noise, but I think that might be an easy fix.
It also has a baxandall EQ which threw me for a loop at first but, it has gotten to spend some more time dialing it in, which has been fun.
Sound wise it's very clean and doesn't really break up much even when cranked to 10. Nice round and punchy cleans.

I am sure I am going to need to build a head cab at the least. Any recco's on speakers?

i've had a few different speakers in my ygm3 but currently has a jensen tornado. not super efficient but very nice tone. cannabis rex was good too.

I had a '69 that I sort of regret selling... but I did some mods on it. First I converted it to open back, I also clipped the "presence" capacitor which helped a lot. Then I put in a Weber Silver Bell with hemp cone because the original speaker was blown. I ended up selling it because I had it in a ridiculous road case and I got sick of lugging it around. The reverb died eventually but I never figured out the problem. Guessing it was simple though.

Does clipping the presence tame that shrill high end. The Bax eq was killing me at first because turning down the treble alone eq was making it sound a little dull. Rotating both knobs at once helped but it's still a little sharp to my ears. I am hoping a different cab/speaker will help.

Also it goes without saying - BE REALLY CAREFUL. If you have 0 idea what you're doing and you are afraid to touch things, have someone else do it. Make sure you completely discharge the capacitors and unplug the amp before you touch the inside. If you don't know how to do this, learn how, or have someone else do it.

before doing any surgery I replaced the speaker with a ceramic weber thames I had lying around.
WHAT A HUGE difference. I love this amp now. Big cleans and no flub.

Cool man. I'd actually still recommend clipping that capacitor, it really made the amp less ice-pick bright and made the tone controls much more usable (larger range of usable sweep on the knobs) but it's your call of course.

The one I had was bright as fuck to the point that it hurt my ears (and there was nothing you could do about it, the treble control barely did anything and there was no presence knob), but then again I hate bright amps and this one has EL84s which is the same output tube as my least favorite amp - the VOX AC15/AC30.

i guess mine has the bright cap on a "treble boost" switch... which i never engage

Yes, that's a different version of the amp. The version that I had had three inputs and no bright switch. Basically imagine that the bright switch on your amp is on all the time and can't be turned off. Clipping the capacitor is like turning the switch off.
