hey, I just recently made a demo of AC30hw head and even though I've never been impressed with any Vox offering, this is pretty cool. I dig the switchable Master Volume circuit. White tolex on this particular one does not hurt at all too :)) I liked it best with my '72 JM. here's the demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz5obWy3Y7k
Sorry, just watched this demo and I have to say that both the amp and playing are killer in this. Also, you’re right, the JM sounds the best, but all of the guitar/pedal pairings are pretty darn good. I’ll have to check out the Atavists now.
Thanks :-* We just started a youtube channel and the Vox will be probably featured in a lot of videos :) Other than that, we want to review as much quirky gear as possible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeElq7kWSH0

I just got a used Pathfinder 15 but it doesn't seem to work :fp: it turns on and everything, but when I plug the guitar it doesn't make any sound. Has anyone had a similar experience? I have already hit up the guy who sold it to me hoping that he would respond

Guess I like them haha.
These are my two Vox Amps: 1969 AC30 and a 1971 Vox Defiant.
Got both of them at killer deals and I have to say, they really did their job! No major issues over the couple of years owning them, despite the fact that they're vintage. The AC30 sounds AMAZING - doesn't matter what type of sound you want to achieve, it'll help you. ;D

Big fan of 60’s Vox amps (not keen on the newer ones). Here’s my 64/65 AC50 with Foundation Cab and Vox Bulldog - Amazing sounding amp 8)

"Any love for Vox amps?"

Certainly......but I love my Fender amps a bit more most of the time(with most, but not all, of my guitars). :)

Anyone have any strong opinions of the newish superbeetle? I've yet to play one or indeed even see one in the wild, but a 25w 1x10 "stack" setup like that seems great for playing at home, light recording, and stuff like that. It's just the right size.
I am curious too.

Yo, I just noticed your username, and as a horse owner, I am laughing my ass off.

It's also my favorite descriptor for funky beers.

Glad to see so many other Vox fans!

So, in case anyone here finds the reverb in their recent model Vox tube amps to be less than useful, I've figured out a way to dramatically surf-ify the reverb in the current line up of Vox AC amps - at least the AC15C* and AC30C* series.

So, first, I replaced the stock reverb pan, a short, three spring, cavernous washy 8EB3C1B with a long, two spring, medium decay pan 4EB2C1B. This makes a substantial difference to the quality of the reverb, but there still isn't enough quantity.

Next, I tried increasing the reverb gain by putting a guitar boost pedal between the pan and the reverb return. As luck would have it, this gave the amp drip so long as I kept the gain under 10dB. Any more becomes a squeal fest.

With this information, I asked a buddy who's an electrical engineer to review the schematic and look for possible gain inside the circuit. Yesterday he gave me the recipe - change C37 from 330pF to 100pF and change R52 from 100k to 330k. Why these values? Well, I'm not an EE so I have no idea! Note that these are the component numbers on my AC15CH; they are different in the AC30CH. Basically these components are attached to the first op amp after the reverb return rca jack.

Video of the final result here: https://youtu.be/qwX6ccQjxOM In the video description there are links to the reverb pan comparison video and the boost pedal video.

Also, check the video description for links to the in process testing videos.

here are C37 and R52 on the circuit board:

here is how the surfy drip is connected to the reverb circuit. I put the jack for the pedal through one of the plastic grilles so no drilling of metal or wood.

here you can see the RCA splitter where the surfy drip jack attaches at the reverb return. Also, note the full length reverb pan (4EB2C1B) fits just fine inside the head.

Love my ac15. Saw another used one at Guitar Center the other week, so I traded in some gear and now have a Vox stack.
