I'd look for a used Zvex Nano amp and plug it into your speaker cab.

I loved the sounds I heard from the Class 5's, but they're getting harder to find. I ended up with a Marshall Origin 20 Combo, which is really killer so far. Might be a little more than your price range, but you might start seeing used prices soon?

Does anyone have an opinion on the Bugera T5? An all tube amp for $150 makes me wonder. I've never seen one in a shop before either.

I have 2 of the T5's, I like them. I can't really say they're exactly Marshall voiced with the gain, but they're not Fender voiced. They seem pretty versatile, and respond to pedals well. They also only use a single preamp tube and poweramp tube, the tubes are not staged, so you won't get the same kind of growl. I actually swapped out the 12AX7's for 12AT7's, to get more headroom when using them clean with other ambient style pedals. When I want it distorted, I turn up the gain knob and push in the Phat switch, and on top of that I can use pedals to push the tubes harder, either lower gain or a hard gain pedal.

I recommend it, I like mine. There may be better out there, even for the price range, and it always goes to taste.

Also, it's not cheap, but Frenzel makes a 25 watt hand-made amp that has one preamp voiced as a Fender Deluxe side and a preamp voiced as a Plexi. It also offers an option where the Plexi voice becomes a JCM 800 voice. And you could Y into each input for both Fender and Marshall sounds, each preamp has its own gain knob.

It has an attenuator for (I think it's) 1/4, 1/2 and full power.

I've had one without the JCM option for a long time, and I just got another one (the Retro Deluxe version) with the JCM option. It's pretty nice having 3 amps in one.

It's about $700-800, but it's hand made to order. Nice amps.

Marshall DSL40C (green channel with OD / FUzz pedal with speaker swap. It's not that low watt but you can still get a decent jcm800 tone at lower volumes.
I got mine for $500. I play a 80's JCM 800 4x12 with the band at rehearsals and shows. 60's Jazzmaster through a variety of pedals and the DSL 40c is the closest I've come to the big rig.

Blackstar sounds very sterile and does not have the upper hair that only marshall can achieve imo.
I have a HT 40 amp... it's more like a boogie clean channel tone.

Maybe one of the H&K Tubemeisters? I have the 18 and absolutely love it.

Seconded; Hughes & Kettner make amazing and versatile tube amps.
The Tubemeister is a "British" sounding tube amp with attenuation, a power soak (so it can run without a cab) plus a great XLR out.
These things rock man; bandmember has the Grandmeister (Tubemeister + Effects) and it sounds great, is tiny and super robust.
I'd rock one of these any day.

I saw that a day or 2 after you posted that, they look pretty cool.

Haven't seen the prices on them yet, but with all that's on the market nowdays, I think they'd be stupid to overprice them just because of the name.

while i love the 800, the prices have went metal recently. same with the JMP. i turned a jmp down a few years ago for £600 and now their £1600 but marshall really dont care too much about the JMP

I haven't encountered one in the wild yet to give it a test drive of my own, but the Studio series head seems like it would be the clear choice if the demos I've heard wind up translating fairly faithfully to my in person experience of them and they don't turn out to have any reliability killing design flaws.

$1299 new for an English assembled 20w JCM head seems like a pretty reasonable price point to me given amp prices in general if you can swing it, I'd imagine it might be a while before they're hitting the used market.

These look rather interesting. It's basically a smaller JCM 800 from what I understand. You could sell you other one and get this and not sacrifice quality...

Yup. That's the one I was talking about, the 1959SLP one sounds pretty great in the demos as well.
