Pro Jr 1x12 cab from Mather cabs
Just posting this in case it helps anyone considering doing this mod.
I’ve sort of been on a quest to find the perfect grab and go 1x12 for my needs.
I ordered a Blues Junior 1x12 sized pine cab with an opening for a Pro Junior from Peter Mather at Mather Cabs.
I dig the stock Pro Junior. But like it even better with a 1 or 2x12. The Tonkerlite is pretty efficient (101db). It’s louder and feels much bigger compared to the stock cab/speaker.
It’s just shy of 22lbs. with the pine cab and Tonkerlite NEO. That’s lighter than the stock cab with the Ragin Cajun I had in there. With the better handle Mather uses it’s actually more manageable than the stock cab and speaker.
Peter’s work is really clean and solid. The machine screws for the back panels have inserts. So nothing is going to strip or pull out. He has a few options for the handle. I went with a “Mesa” style. I find them more comfortable than the stock plastic and more durable and comfortable than the tweed leather style.
Required vanity shots.
He has a lot of color options and is really flexible. I went with Red/Wheat.

That looks great. Love the inserts.

That's delightful. I used to have a PJ with a Ragin' Cajun in it and it was definitely a solid gigging amp for a good long while, even though I was definitely using it in a way unbecoming of its best traits. Are you using it cleaner with pedals or are you just cranking it up and going from there?
And you find out life isn't like that

I used it last weekend at a gig before this cab arrived with a Ragin Cajun. I set it on about 7-8 on the volume and go from there. It was mic’d up. When it’s up that loud any kind of overdrive or boost just makes it sustain until it fades into feedback.stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 7:12 amThat's delightful. Mather does great work! This is a really cool looking cabinet you have here. Do you find that it has changed the amp's sound much? I love what he did for my Tremolux build from last summer. When people look at it an remark on how cool my work is, I always have to give credit to Mr. Mather for the amp's appearance.

I had an Eminence Ragin Cajun in the stock cab. It was a lot more efficient and added low end compared to the factory speaker. The 12” Tonkerlite doesn’t seem much louder. But it seems bigger if that makes sense. It feels like a bigger amp under your fingers and in front of it.wproffitt wrote: ↑Fri May 25, 2018 4:18 amMather does great work! In the 1x12 cab it really sounds and feels fairly similar to a Tweed Deluxe.

What do you consider its best traits?stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 7:12 amThat's delightful. To me it seems like a good amp to have up about 3/4 of the way and keep the effects pretty minimal (my typical MO), but I’ve never had a chance to play one in a band setting.

Its pretty dynamic for a small amp, IMO. For me it works best set at ~7 on the volume and tone to taste. And then just work the guitar volume for rhythm/fills/solo. Step on a boost pedal or overdrive and it just gets fatter and everything fades into feedback.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Fri May 25, 2018 10:35 amWhat do you consider its best traits?stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 7:12 amThat's delightful. I like that it’s light and small and can work with a band if you mic it up.
If it’s good enough for Jeff Beck, surely it’s good enough for me.

Cool. I may go for it if one pops up cheap enough locally.Chew wrote: ↑Fri May 25, 2018 10:39 amIts pretty dynamic for a small amp, IMO.
