60s Traynor YBA-2B?

Post by StevenO » Mon Mar 12, 2018 4:14 am

I don't need anymore amps, BUT... I found a YBA-2B for a decent-enough price (less than a used Blues Junior, for instance). Are these any good? Worth picking up, even for resale? It's the dual EL84 model, if that makes any difference.

I had one. Awesome little amp. Great for guitar or recording bass. I traded mine in towards my Bassbreaker 45 head because it wasn't getting enough use.

Worth it to pick up? There's one for sale locally for a whopping $699. :bored: The one I'm looking at is in similar shape for several hundred less. :shifty:

I got $280 canadian as a trade in recently on mine so I figure it will sell for more so if it is in good shape I would say go for it. I have seen these priced pretty high lately.

This one is about $100 more than that. Figure it's worth it?

My gear rule is generally: don't buy stuff just because it's a good deal.

Like how much of a bullshit excuse are you making to justify the purchase? From the way you're talking about it, I'd estimate that your reasons for buying the amp are suspect at best.

[I say all this as a person that makes up a lot of dumb reasons to buy gear... :-[]

Not sure what's so suspect about buying an amp for cheap and if not liking it, flipping it for a little extra profit, so with that I'll take your statement as a "buy it, ya dingus!"

One thing to keep in mind is that it may need a speaker replacement. Traynor mostly used Marsland speakers, which are generally not well regarded.
That said, I'd probably buy it. :)

I have a billion speakers NOT being used currently, so it'd be an easy peasy thing for me to do.

El84. If it were 6v6 or 6l6, I'd already own it. I played it with bass and guitar and it sounded OK. *shrug* My purchase would be more for resale.

Now a days anything under $500 is good. The days of picking them up for a couple hundred all day long are sadly over.

I’d snag it if I were you.
