Sourced a cab. Matches the blue transformers. Made in Canada too..

And an unbranded blackface faceplate.

Next update in about 3 weeks...

Quick update..

I had drilled a hole at the bottom for the IEC socket, with a circular saw.

I wanted to avoid having to make a square cutout. The hole had big gaps on both sides, which i knew it would, but stupidly thought could plug somehow, plus it would have been to close to the mains, (Not that im going to unbolt it plugged in but..). Anyhow, i didn't like the location so I'll just put a plug in it, blue loctite and it will not only look fine but also keep the dust away.

Check out the new one... It was a bitch to do with a hand drill. Looks decent.

I absolutely love designing/sourcing/building amps... even enjoy the "oh shit I have made a mistake, it's time for fault finding ..." part of the process. But the least enjoyable part for me is the metal work/chassis preparation (AKA drilling holes of any number of sizes and shapes). So much effort mentally and physically to get it correct... but when it is done... and it was a success ,,, it is a good feeling.

This is really giving me the itch to make a new amp.

When doing a cutout like that, or just doing any drilling in steel, buy the wire gauge bits that are stored next to the taps and dies, they have the proper geometry for drilling steel and make life a whole lot easier. Drill out the corners and find a copping saw blade that has 2 or 3 teeth to the thickness of the metal and connect the dots. Seems like it would be a massive chore that way, but it is pretty quick and gives good results with much less file work. You can also make a handle for a metal cutting jigsaw blade, use it like a keyhole saw, works good for some things, but the coping saw is easiest I have found short of buying a mill or buying pricey punches. A couple cold chisels are best of all for connecting the dots, but a trick on a pre bent chassis.
