EDIT - NAD - Bassbreaker 45 - Now a Speaker Question...

Post by Drewbertca » Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:16 am

Well I bought the Bassbreaker 45 Head to use with my PSVI through a butchered Traynor cab with a 15" EV and a 12" Fender/Eminence speaker. WOW. Sounds just like I would expect it to. Huge!

I had to remove the rubber feet and move them in so it would fit on the cab.

I did all this after driving 4 hours each way to the store and back, traded a couple things in, signed up for financing, and didn't even test it out. Also Bought the EHX Russian Big Muff reissue - also without trying it. Both worked out.

You see the amp is on a mangeled Traynor cab with a 15 and a 12 in it. I like the EVM 15B that is in it and was looking at EVM 12 Ls for the 12, but they seem a little costly, so I'm leaning towards the Hempdog or Legend EM12.

My research has shown that the main differences are the cone material, freq response and power rating (and like $20 Canadian).

The EM12 has a wider usable Freq response but the curve is steeper in the bass roll-off making the Hempdog technically louder at 40hz according to the response curve graphs on the Eminence site (I know these have little to do with real world applications)

Clips show the Hempdog to be warmer and the EM12 as brighter. This cab will be used for guitar and Bass VI. Thoughts on the 12 I should put in there???

I have a 1x12 with a Hempdog in it. It is a darker speaker. Take it, I've not really worn it in yet and it may loosen up some eventually. If you like EV you may as well save up and EV it. That's really what I should do as well.

I use a Bassbreaker 007 as my bedroom/living room amp, and it has by far exceeded every one of my expectations.

If I start playing live again, I'll likely buy a bigger version of it.

I wound up going with the Hempdog. I made a great choice. With the EVM 15b in the same cab it sounds huge with my PSVI....I think my bandmates will be asking me to turn down again....

played a show with this setup on April 27th and another tonight. Sounds killer with my PSVI. We're a loud punk band and it keeps up nicely...
