the twin vs twin amp

Post by FightingPlankton » Sun Dec 17, 2017 2:48 pm

Ok, so, it's a ways off, but I've been wanting a twin. I have my ampeg super rocket which is great, but I'd like a proper fender.
so I was browsing options and noticed that both the red knob twin and the twin amp ('94 evil twin) have 1/4 power switch which is an option I love on my gvt52.
So, if you had to pick between the 2, which would you take?
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

I said red knob. I’m familiar with the red knob and evil twin. I found the evil twin a bit harsh.

The red knob I owned was a good amp, but paled in comparison to my 69 twin. I’d say it sounded more “modern”. We all know how the gain channel is regarded on this amp. Still, keep the gain low and you get some light drive tones out of it.

I am leaning toward red knob simply due to Placebo using them.

I picked red knob because I feel it's closest to mine. I have a Pro Tube Twin Amp, which I absolutely love. It's got footswitch controlled reverb, tremolo, effects loop on/off, and channel select. It's got a pretty good distortion sound, and absolutely amazing cleans. It also has the quarter power switch too, and since the effects loop has send and return volumes, you can turn those down and it will make the amp even quieter.
I'm in Marching Band and play Guitar. That's about it, pretty boring, isn't it?

I have a 94 evil Twin and it’s incredible. Absolutely love it, particularly the in between push-me/pull-you yellow channel. Don’t find it at all harsh, quite the contrary. Really rich low end, and beautiful clarity.

I don't know how it compares to the OP's Poll.

I have a 2008 Fender Pro Tube 100 Watt Twin Amp with 2X12 Eminence Speakers that I bought new. Still looks brand new. It has the 22 Watt Cut Switch..also the 4 button Foot Switch.. It sounds fantastic.. Luckily it came with Casters as it's about 85 lbs. Great Amp though!
