DIY DI BOX or LINE OUT for 60W tube head?

Post by tedsorvino » Thu Nov 23, 2017 9:19 am

Is there a way to build a good DI BOX with dummy load?
Any schematic or layout available?
I need it in order to avoid the cabinet for easy home recording without the cabinet at line out levels.

You can! But it won't sound like a speaker and it's a bit of work.
There's a lot of information out there for diy load boxes with line out (what you should search for) but to be honest there's better options out there (I've built one; it'll work but it didn't sound good in my experience).
A reactive load won't work like a speaker load and so it won't sound like such. If you want to get the best out of your setup it would be smart to invest in a real load box with speaker simulation.

On the other hand; there are a few really good digital speaker simulators out there that maybe could make your line signal work. Maybe.

In the end I'd suggest saving up and getting something like the Two-notes Torpedo Captor, which will also work as a (simple) attenuator!
