One amp to rule them all.

Right, but it's not going to make my amp any quieter. At 2-3, no breakup, it's loudpanoramic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 4:53 amnah it lets you get breakup at lower volumes actuallyeurotrashed wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2017 1:04 pmWon't the attenuator just let me turn the amp up without increasing the volume of the amp? Re: One amp to rule them all.
My friend have a 5:25 and he is really pleased with it. Never have a problem with the amp either. Mesa are PCP made, but they are well made. For me, they have far too much knobs, channels and options, but each their own.eurotrashed wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 5:32 amEl84s...
The Mesa 5:50 is tempting, I'm just worried about servicing and reliability as it is a complex amp

Ah dang, for some reason I thought it had 6V6s. In any case, I wouldn't pay attention to the tubes used. Those have a play in how an amp sounds, but it's just one small part in a bigger thing.eurotrashed wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 5:32 amEl84s...

They're supposed to be great amps, though. If you find one, don't hesitate to check one out. They go for cheap, too, and are well built.

Re: One amp to rule them all.
Since you want a bass amp, have you considered getting a bass amp and finding some pedals that would give you the guitar tone you seek? I sold a guitar amp of mine and waited around for a 61 Showman and in the mean time I played through my bass amp with a reverb tank and was very pleased with it. I think if you found the pedal(s) that helped you nail your sound you could be able to get a bass amp that convincingly gets you there.
Just something to consider.

My first thought with a $1300 budget was to maybe have a custom built low-wattage Bandmaster? Perhaps even a DIY build yourself. That could be fun

I would rather buy a Princeton Reverb. I thought the Bandmaster was like a red headed stepchild of fender amps, no one really cares about them and they have been cheap until recently. I think I traded a Tiny Terror and $150 for this amp.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 4:49 pmMy first thought with a $1300 budget was to maybe have a custom built low-wattage Bandmaster? I think a Princeton would also be a great choice. I've been wanting one myself...

Princeton Reverb or Deluxe Reverb. Fits the description to a T. You're gonna have to deal with some pedals for gain but we also live in a golden era of pedals. Swapping a pedal on a whim is way easier than overhauling your whole amp situation. Maybe a Bearfoot Model H for your Blue Album distortion??
Is there something out there with a master volume that might fit the bill? I was gonna say Mesa too but you seem reluctant. I'm not really great at recommending versatile amps but I should say, I stopped looking at amps once I got a Princeton.

Re: One amp to rule them all.
You’ve been given some great options here!
I like to keep things simple, which is why I love my PR so much. The cleans and Reverb can’t be beat in a package that manageable in terms of size and volume. Throw an OD or distortion pedal in front of it and you’re good to go with the Blue Album sounds.
As for the Mesa amps, they have nice cleans (which most review videos don’t seem to address!) and get you that ROCK sound. I know they’re well built but they seem to have a lot of knobs! I don’t like to tweak things too much once I find a couple of settings I like. The Mesas I’ve played seem like they’re for folks who really like to fine tune things with many parameters.
The Fender Supersonic is also nice. You have some cool switching options which give you both Deluxe type sounds and gainier stuff too. They’ve sold a bunch of these for a reason, I’m sure.
So, you know... Princeton Reverb.

I think I'm going to play a Mesa 5:50 and Orange Rockerverb 50 then pick from there once I sell my Bandmasterkosmonautmayhem wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 6:55 pmPrinceton Reverb or Deluxe Reverb. Played a 5:50. I like it. I guess they have different versions as this one didn't seem complicated

Ya, dialing in a Mesa amp was always a chore for me until I tried the Express series. Mines the even simpler one without the graphic eq.
I find them and the Lonestars easy to dial in, where I find older models, or metal oriented amps can be a challenge.
