a new amp for sleazy

Post by s_mcsleazy » Thu Oct 26, 2017 12:06 am

so it looks like when i move, im going to be living in a flat. i still have my bassman, my fal and my deluxe 90..... but that's about it amp wise. they are all pretty large and loud monsters the last thing i want is to blow the walls off my new place. so im looking for a new low power amp. so let's talk my needs

1. clean as hell
2. ideally £250 but the lower the price, the better.
3. headphones/line out.
4. got to be able to take the amount of gain i run.
5. ideally, spring reverb.
6. simple as hell.
7. easy to grab for jam sessions.

any ideas what would fit that?

Get a harley benton "fender" box for cheap. Add an EH 44 magnum or the like, and run it into a 112. Profit.
This is an excellent rectangle

so, a few options spring to mind.
I love the new fender bassbreaker 007 but the reverb is digital. Another solid option would be blues jr III, but its missing a line out option. youd definitely have to try to track down a used one to get either in your budget
I havent tried the Bugera V5, but it looks to fit the bill.
edit: just searched ebay.co.uk and found a jazz chorus 50 for £250. thats what I would personally get.
edit 2: unfortunatly its local pickup only and he lives on the other side of the uk(in Cheddar)...which is about 6hrs drive...but still, 12 hours for a great amp? i might do it...maybe try to talk him down on price to pay for petrol ;)
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Or one of the Quilter micro blocks. The EHX microamps have (or had) a reputation for dying, Quilter stuff has a solid rep.

Red knob Fender Eighty-Five. Cheap solid state but nice cleans, spring reverb, lots of tone options, small, nice size speaker, and can get loud as you want in an apartment. (I prefer my two channel Deluxe Eighty-Five to my one channel one, but both would be awesome.)

I hadn't heard that about the EHX stuff. Quilter was the first thing that came to my mind too, but I dunno how available that stuff is in the UK.

But really, a 112 solid state version of whichever amp(s) you dig is a hard package to beat.

There's like one quilter dealer and you occasionally see the odd head secondhand but yeah, not as available as I'd like. The microblock is like the perfect amp backup for gigging coz I hate the idea of DI'ing (like you can with those chinese sansamp clones) and not having the guitar speaker as both a part of the guitar sound and my monitor for myself. It's just a liiiiiitle bit expensive to be "just a backup" for me.

Me? I am a valve amp guy ... however I bought one of these a year or so back and it is an awesome bass amp, and maybe what you are looking for. At least see if you can find one and have a play through it

I love my ancient Cube40, but you might prefer an old JC instead. There were 2x10s and also 1x12. High quality MIJ stuff!
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

One of the Fender Frontmans with reverb would suit your budget and requirements. Great wee amps for the money, dimensions and weight.

i've seen them about but never had a chance to try one. i mostly just want it for noodling when i get set up in the new place so i dont have to blast my bassman or deluxe

Aye, there are a lot of them out there on the second-hand market. As I said, good value and good sounding.

i tried a mustang into an orange crush 12 and i was surprised with the wee thing. not super clean but more than enough headroom for practice.
